Your right Dwight, I got one at Dallas myself - brilliant speakers.
I also have to say that the Telonics enclosures are among the best built and thought out speaker cabinets on the market - robust yet lightweight. As with everything Dave and Stacey build, they are outstanding in every way, with attention to detail and deliver what a musician needs - as with their complete line of products.
And you will not encounter a better customer service than that provided by Dave Beaty and his Telonics team.

I just used my new Telonics cabs on a gig. Amazing, huge, rich sound! Through a Stereo Steel combo amp.
JBL K-130-4 (Telonics rebuilt speaker) in open back; Black Widow (neo magnet) in closed back.
Mine have the natural look baffles; look gorgeous!!!
Thanks, Dave Beaty and the Telonics gang, for making available such a fine product.

You can see the closed back, front ported natural finish speaker (1501-4) right behind me here .. the open backed one (Telonics 15") is partially obscured to the left - it doesn't have the front cutouts/ports but is the same natural finish.

Shots of my new Telonics cabinets; they're fab! JBL K-130-4 Telonics rebuilt speaker in the open back cab; Black Widow with neo magnet that I had laying around in the closed back cab. The JBL excels at sparkly highs, the BW excels at beefy mids and lows; between the two the sound is incredibly full. This is identical to the loaner pair I borrowed from Dave Beaty to play my set at this year's Phoenix steel show, and the tone blew away me and everyone who heard my set, I had SO many compliments on my sound (other parts: Stereo Steel combo head; TC Electronics M-One XL for reverb & delay; Visual Sound Route 808 for overdrive; Zoom MS-50G for phaser and auto wah; Mullen D12 9+10 with Lawrence 912 humbucking pickup for E9)
Few things to note:
• speaker cord jacks on back AND front, very handy
•dovetail joint construction throughout, no screws or nails, except for attaching the gorgeous baltic birch ply baffle to the cab body. Even there, the screws go into a metal threaded thingy, they don't chew up the wood of the baffle.
• corners allow them to stack perfectly
• great sound

I have a pair of 15" open back Telonics cabinets that are now loaded with their new neo speakers. I replaced the Peavey BW 1501-4 DT speakers that I had been using in them for the past year or so. They are everything Paddy and others here are saying about themPaddy Long wrote:I also have to say that the Telonics enclosures are among the best built and thought out speaker cabinets on the market - robust yet lightweight. I modified my cabinets with spring-loaded handles, so I can tip them up if I want to. I got the idea from when I owned an Evans SE200 which utilizes the same type of thing.

Lynn Stafford

Here is my take on the Telonics 15" speaker.
I posted this info on another thread but am adding it here in case someone wants to read it.
" Hello David;
If you do not want to break the bank but you like the sound of the JBL speakers, I would suggest you get one of the new Telonics 15" speaker for your Twin.
I would describe the sound between a Black Widow & a K series JBL. I have one I have hooked up to a original '65 Twin Reverb amp chassis in a head cab
& the Telonics 15" speaker in a separate partial open back cab. I am able to tweek the mids/presence
just a little bit to dial in real close to the JBL series speaker sound that I love so much.
Plus a big bonus for me is the weight reduction of
the new Telonics speaker - it is noticeably lighter
& still have a great sound.
I love the JBL speaker sound but think about this - IF you do buy a used one you are probably gonna end up getting it re-coned -
more shipping charges + the cost of the re-cone + the weight of the speaker carrying in & out of the dance.
As we all are getting older we are looking for the sounds we love but in a lighter package.
The Telonics speaker will fill that bill.
They also make the Telonics speaker in a 12" but it
is available only in 4 ohm. To run 2x12" of these speakers you would have to wire them together for 8 ohms - not ideal for your Twin amp but it will work
fine unless you keep the volume at 10 & push the volume pedal down to its limits a lot.
Just another option for you to think about.
The choice is up to you.
Thanks for reading."

And I'd have either one of your gorgeous Zums if I had the budget, and if I could content myself with "just" 10 strings per neck! Those Zums really sing.

Yes, I certainly do I just installed three C6 levers on an '09 D-10 ZumSteel for Rocky Evanglisti in Australia. He purchased the guitar from Larry Petree in Bakersfield and had it shipped to me for the work. I purchased all the parts from Bruce Zumsteg, installed them and shipped it to Australia.
I have the very first two D2F covers made for the Telonics cabinets. I ordered them from Tom at the Dallas Jamboree last year and he measured the cabinets right there on the spot. Very fine products Tom makes. I've lost count of all the leg bags I've bought from him. Just about every used guitar I buy to fix up needs a new leg bag, it seems.

Lynn Stafford

Does Tom make non-padded leg bags? I'm thinking with the usual padded material he uses for amp covers, it'd be a tight fight in the case compartment.
I'll keep you in mind for that Zum work if I ever go down that road, Lynn, Bruce won't take on building me an SD-12 because it's so lever rich (4p+7kl)! If I find a deal on one, be happy to have you customize it, your work on the Emmons p/p's for my pal Jim Hussey has been astounding.

Hello John;
The leg bags I have from Tom are all non-padded.
I am sure he knows about the tight fit issue.
My best to you.

Today I did a very thorough test of Telonics and Walker cabinets with various speakers, and here's the conclusion of me and my student, Jason Gilbert:
The Telonics neo speaker is brilliant! Seems to be midway between the highs of a JBL K-130 and the Peavey BW 1501. It really had a wonderful, full sound, great highs, lows and mids. I'm ordering one to use when I know the stage is too small for my usual dual Telonics cabinets with BW and JBL speakers. That setup, btw, is the ultimate, but just barely.
We tested all the speakers and cabs with his new Mullen G2 D-10, and my pre-RP Mullen D-12, both through identical Walker Stereo Steels combo amps/preamps. Both steels sounded unbelievably great through his Telonics speakers and mine (his is dual open backs, Telonics spkr and JBL; mine is open back with JBL, closed back with BW 1501).
Keep up the great work, Dave Beaty and crew!
