New use for PSG ?

Post by Roger Crawford »

I keep a guitar set up with a naugahide cover back stage at the local Opry house that I play. Last night, a lady brought her new grandson back stage looking for a place to change a diaper. You guessed it...she laid a towel over my guitar and proceeded to undress the little tyke. I was caught so off guard, I couldn't say anything, but our stage manager saw what was happening and asked her not to change diapers on the steel guitar. The lady was very apoligetic, she thought it was a bench. What have you had your guitar subjected to?

Whenever I play weddings or banquets, where seating is at a premium, I just eat at my guitar and set the plate on the strings. Image

I've used mine for a dinner table, a work bench when soldering cables with a cover over the steel of course. I think I've even used it to lay my head on to take a nap.

Years ago in the LA area I was at a benefit and we had our instruments in this hallway next to the stage. I was out front socializing and walked back down the hallway and there was a girl sitting right on top of my steel guitar. I went totally ballistic and started yelling at her to get her fat @$$ off of my steel guitar. She said she thought it was a bench. I have a padded cover so I guess the mistake could be made but it really torked me off.

One time down at the Sundance Saloon,I caught a guy using my Sho-Bud for a bar stool and I was so angry I shoved him off of it.He didn't like that so we mixed it up for a minute - he ended up getting 86ed and I ended up with my face laid open from the fat end of a pool cue. I did get a butterfly bandage and free beer for the night - courtesy of the establishment.

Tony , after your nap did you come up looking a bit zebra ish?
I think PSG covers should have printed on the top.
This is NOT a bench..

I was on a break in rehearsal, and was using my old ZB as a dinner table. My hand slipped, and I splashed coffee all over my guitar. Startled, I exclaimed, 'Oh no, look what I've done!'

Like lightning, the guitar-player said, 'Don't worry - there's plenty more in the pot...'

I play in the house band. We have a special guest or guests each night. Last week, I went up to change a couple strings and tune and a Minidisc player was hooked up and sitting on my pac-a-seat, and the remote was on my guitar. If a group has cds and t-shirts to sell, they usually do their commercial, and leave the items on my steel. Got a pretty good collection!

What?! None of you slice hard boiled eggs with it? C'mon!
Vibraphone & xylophone players have the same problem. "THIS IS NOT A TABLE!"<FONT SIZE=1 COLOR="#8e236b"><p align=CENTER>[This message was edited by Rex Thomas on 19 March 2003 at 07:20 AM.]</p></FONT>
