Forum member Paul Redmond is a good pull release mechanic too. I learned alot from him, Richard Burton and Ricky Davis when I bought my pull release Marlen. I've got both, a pull release and one of the last all pull Marlens made and the pull release has the best tone.
There were several different pull release designs used my Mr. Stadler and all are a bit different but you can learn to tune it and will love the tone. Keep in mind they're sensitive to string gauge, so remember what you have on it for strings and replace them with the same type and gauge when the time comes.

YEE-HAW! James them old Marlens are coming out of the woodwork! I'm ready to come down next week - God's willing and the creek don't rise! Can't wait to show you the new accessories and the modification I made for pedal stops. I got a phone # for a Dale Sorgum, this gentleman owned my steel previously however his phone had been disconnected. Wondering if anyone recognizes the name, perhaps knows his condition or whereabouts? I've got an old Marlen. Sweetest sounding pickups I've ever heard.
I sold it to a student and he couldn't finish paying for it so he gave it back to me with parts missing (pedal rods and some missing misc undercarriage parts) and most of the undercarriage is in a bag.
It's a pull release D10 4 and 9 (if I remember correctly) (one pedal homemade add on).
I don't want to mess with it. If someone is interested give me a PM.

I got a chance to speak over the phone with the prior owner of my marlen. Turns out that he played approximately 15 years @the vfw in eureka KS and is all that is left of his band, that and health issues had prevented him from carrying his equipment so he decided to sell and dissolve any burden on his wife and kids if he was to pass away. I think he is very pleasant to speak with and assured him that his steel found a good home and plan to meet face-to-face when my job takes me a little closer. He told me that he bought the marlen in '71(the year it was made) but was not the original owner. The e9/c6 necks were switched as they were when i purchased it, hence the confusion w/ Jeff and I. I can only conclude it was custom built that way. As for missing parts? He says it's as he bought it, one knee lever, nothing removed while he owned it, though I suspect the first owner did removed something judging by screw holes in the undercarriage
