I'm new to the Mullen world, and i'd like to know about polishing out the wear grooves on the fingers...I'm currently using Simi Chrome, and i'm not about to run any wet/dry sandpaper on these, as they are of a 'SHINY' Chrome type appearance..Is that 'Chrome Plating' or Polished Alloy??? 2012 Discovery.
Thanks mates! _________________ A.K.A Chappy. |

Well, I dunno Larry. I've owned 3 or 4 Mullen guitars. They all had the anodized roller bridge fingers. I wouldn't dare attempt to mess with those.
I think the older ones had alu fingers....the new G2 appears to be alum as well, but I don't know.
The best thing would be to call Mike or Del and ask them about refinishing.
As I recall, you have a Discovery. I'm surprised that it would show signs of grooving this quickly. |

It's just the normal little scuff marks 'zings'... i play about 2-5 hrs a day, and i been through about a dozen set's! I woulndn't call them Grooves but you know maybe lines that causes the Zing, not something i would call a Repair issue, just needs a bit of Rubbing. I do know not to sand out Chrome plated fingers.
These have the Chrome appearance, is that Anodized? _________________ A.K.A Chappy. |

I can't say for sure Larry, but I don't think those are anodized. The anodized have a brown, black or very dull appearance. Never had a good look at the newer ones.
Maybe just try a 1" typewriter style office eraser. Just a little polishing and not terribly abrasive. |

The black Rollers you find are hard black anodized aluminum. The shiny ones like your discovery are just polished hardened aluminum. As for the marks, the first time you put a set of strings on there they are going to leave marks, because of the wrapping of the string. The marks caused by the wrapping of strings should cause no problems. The only place of concern that would affect the tone, would be at the very top of the roller basically right where your string leaves the roller. If there is no groove on the top there then you should do nothing.
The biggest cause of these grooves are from putting your guitar upside down on a hard surface. Always make sure there is something (like a towel) under your changer when you turn the guitar upside down.
I would not think you would have this problem on a new guitar. You can email me at sales@mullenguitars.com if there is an issue that needs repaired. |

Thanks mike very much for the info..No, no problems, the guitar is superb indeed and dosen't need any repairs, i just wasen't sure about the normal 'zing' finger thing that we all suffer from, i polished them up with some standard Simi chrome and all's good. I just did not want to risk doing any sanding at a later date if required if they were Chrome plated, ala 80's Sho-Bud style....All is good Mike and i am very satisfied as i have stated in many other threads...Thank you! _________________ A.K.A Chappy. |
