LSGA Banner
Hi, Everyone ... I designed a quick simple banner (example shown below) for us to hang up on the back of the stage or wall for our meetings and/or shows.
I've made a few quote requests from different printers and received one from Copy Craft that's the best so far ... $65 for a 13oz vinyl 3 foot x 8 foot banner with grommets. Not too bad at all compared to some of the quotes I've received this morning. So, in about a week or two I'll be ordering a banner for us to hang up during our meetings/shows!

Meeting / Show Venue
I forgot to add something about a possible venue for our first meeting, which I'm hoping will occur in a month (or two at the latest).
Due to the small size of the venue that's generously been offered for our use (and for which I'm very grateful), I'm also keeping options open and looking into the possibility of something a bit larger and more adequately set up for a steel meeting.
Depending on cost, our first meeting might be a little humble in the smaller venue that's been offered, but if I can swing it, I'd like to get us into one that's a bit spacier for musicians on stage and better audience seating. I'm shopping around to see what all is available and their rental costs for the day.
One thing I'm looking at very closely is parking and ease of load-in, load-out. I'll keep you posted on what all I find.

Definitely glad to have you on board, Charlie!
Ha! Billy, that depends on where you're starting "Senior" at! I myself am taking the Jack Benny route ... I'm 49 and holding (at least I have been for the last ten years!).

JPG to PDF Conversion
Hi, Guys ...
Does anyone have a decent JPG image to PDF converter? I've downloaded several today and they are not working to convert the LSGA banner image from .JPG format to .PDF format (so much for free-ware software!).
Copy Craft wants the master image for the banner in .PDF format only, so I need to convert the .JPG to a .PDF ... if anyone has software (such as Acrobat Pro) that'll do this, would greatly appreciate some assistance with it.
Thanks in advance!
Jim

Re: JPG to PDF Conversion
I would suggest a utility such as CutePDF that lets you print anything to a pdf file instead of to a printer. These are also useful to check whether something will fit on a page, without wasting paper.Jim Lindsey wrote: JPG image to PDF converter?

Thanks sincerely, Earnest. I haven't tried that one. I'll look it up and give it a try.

Depending on how you count them, you've got somewhere between 25 - 40% of the World's Greatest Active Jazz Steel Guitarists down thar with Dave Easley & Bill Stafford. It might be worth an outreach, if you're shy and you want I'll bang on 'em with an e-mail telling them to at least read this thread.
As a global issue (steelwise) these two facts often juxtapose in my head:
A) In the golden olden days, it was considered almost an obligation or duty for old, wise musicians to teach the children how to sit up straight and take things seriously;
B) On this very forum, 37.5% of the members are old wise guys bitching about how there's no place to play, their steel's too heavy and hard to move, nobody loves the old music, kids today are no darn good, nar, nar, nar. Essentially saying there's no point to playing music!
A+B - crunch, crunch, crunch. Although I am neither totally old, certainly not wise (except maybe "....A$$" ) I have gotten kicks out of watching a kid's brain perk up when a new connection is made that were just as rewarding as drilling an 8-minute "Sultans of Swing" solo at a drunken orgy in 1988.... regarding instruments, ever hear of Kickstarter, Razoo, Fundrazr...
Just some thoughts.

George and Russell, welcome aboard! Tommy, please extend a welcome to the three you mentioned, George, Michael and Tommy.
I have to apologize that I've not been on here posting any updates lately. I've been looking at different venue possibilities and a few other things as well in trying to set up a first meeting. Musicians for one thing ... trying to get a "backup band" put together.
I also got the LSGA banner ordered! Yeeha! Can't wait for it to come in.
