Hi everybody,
My name is Kenny, I'm from Alabama, and my "Carter Starter" is being shipped to me as I write.
I've enjoyed the sound of the steel guitar all my life and I finally made the decision to get a steel and get started.
I've been "lurking" for a while and I'm very impressed with what everyone has to say and offer on here.
If anyone has any suggestions to point me in the right direction, please, feel welcome to comment anytime as any and all input is greatly appreciated.
I'm looking forward to talking/asking questions with yall.

Thanks to everyone for the welcome comments.
Right now I'm still reading a lot of the posts trying to become familiar with terminology and issues that have been posted.
I'm very pleased to find out in the research I've done that some of the steel guitar sounds I've heard over the years are well recognized right here on the forum. People like: Buddy Emmons, Hal Rugg, Ralph Mooney, Ricky Davis, and Gary Morse.
Again thanks so much for the welcome.

Howdy!
Good to see another 'Bama steeler here!
I'm a little north of you, but perhaps we'll cross paths some day.
I know it will be a good ways to drive, but on the 2nd Sunday of every month our club, the Jugtown Steel Guitar Club, meets in Gardendale at the Masonic lodge from 2 till 5pm. Ya'll come see us!

Hey Bryan, that get together is EXACTLY the kind of thing I was hoping to run across. I have no problems driving up to Gardendale--so glad you suggested it.
A little something about me:
I'm 28, I've played acoustic guitar since I was 14(but I just know chords and am able to play most songs I want to), I played drums in high school band and in garage bands, but in the past 8 years I've mainly played guitar. (I don't have my drums anymore, my ex-wife sold them when I was married to the...anyway).
The past six months I've re-evaluated what I want to do musically and of all the instruments I like, I like the way a steel guitar sounds, and I want to make that sound.
So that's how I got here!
I'll be back in touch with you about the gatherings yall have in Gardendale

Bryan, that didn't bother me at all--good questions to ask.
It's too bad that such a great instrument is overlooked, especially by the big time record companies pumping out "pop-country" that involves little to no steel.
I can't wait to get started--I'm supposed to have my steel on Tuesday says the UPS person.

Just wanted to say hello. I am a youn-un' on the forum too. (26 yrs. old). I am also waiting for my first Carter Starter to arrive hopefully on Tues. or Wed. Is the waiting killing you as bad as it is me? I am originally from Georgia and have spent many weekends in your great little town w/ college buddies. I have been a member of the forum for over a year now and everyone has been great! You'll love it. |

Hi Brandon, do you mean can't wait as in, "my guitar left Memphis, TN at 12:51pm this afternoon"? I've been tracking it on UPS.com since it left yesterday. I think I may very well have it before Tuesday.
Yeah my town is a good little party town, but it's too bad they don't have any honky-tonks or any bands that play some good country music.

| Hey Kenny Glad you got a started this young on this instrument, you got plenty of time... of course you will need it LOL. But don't fear you will be making music with some band before you know it.
