Strap Locks for Resonators (Dobros)

So I hear that strap locks are highly recommended for squarenecks ... was wondering, if there is a pickup jack in the end button, where would you put the strap lock button? (sorry if this is a dumb question)

Try Tapastring StrapKeeper. I've been using it for almost six months and it works well. It's a small company from Colorado. You can buy it from their website for $10.

PS: I had to put locktight on the threads of the jack coming out of my Gretsch. Before applying locktight, the jack unscrewed twice and I dropped the guitar.

Not sure whether this would work or not on your particular guitar, but my guitar buddy uses the rubber washers/gaskets from grolsch beer bottles as straplocks.

I have a Schaller strap lock on my Beard MA6 - wouldn't trust anything else personally.

All my resos have regular Schaller endpins/locks and separate output jacks. IMO that`s the way to go.

I use a rubber faucet washer with a 1/4 in ID. Works great. Costs 10 cents.

Yep. Gregg McKenna put a straplock button on my new 8-string (no pickup) and when I sent the Guernsey 6-string bak to Ivan for a pickup, he put the jack below the tailpiece. Works great. Martin's doing something similar, with their Performance series guitars.

Yes well that's great for retrofits, certain new installs etc. but that doesn't help those of us that already have an electronic/endpin/pickup/ installation. F.I., the Fishman Nashville pickup comes wired to the endpin jack on some guitars. That's a big deal to try and rewire. Are you suggesting drilling a second location for the electronics connection? Seems a little drastic to me.

These other little gadgets seem to be a viable alternative without having to redo the whole jack[s] system, plug and redrill the other one just for a strap lock.

None that I'm aware of.

I know Paddy's MA-6, we used to live together, (not me and Paddy, me and that MA-6).

I had Paul Beard install the Pickup. he drilled a separate hole for the jack.

Planet Waves makes these locking straps. No buttons to replace, works on any standard guitar strap buttons.

Clete, I have one of these Planet Waves jobs for my Tele, and I really like it.

Not going to work here for two reasons:

1. Rick stated that he has a pickup jack where the end button, or what I call end pin or strap button, would normally be.

2. When you use this Planet Waves strap with something like a Tele or a flattop acoustic, or for that matter a roundneck resonator, you typically have a second strap button near the neck heel. You wouldn't attach a strap for a dobro there. it is normally attached with a loop going in between the tuners, between the 5th and 4th strings and the 2nd and 3rd strings. In this case, you'd have to screw in a strap button at the end of the headstock and I know for me, I wouldn't like one in that position.

I use a regular guitar strap with Dunlop straplok. For the headstock end, I use one of the Planet Waves extender thingies (http://www.musiciansfriend.com/accessor ... rap-system). Works like a charm, and I can easily remove the strap to fit everything in the case.

Reminds me I have two large gouges in my Dobro where I dropped it on my pedal steel when the strap let go.
It's kinda like backing out of your garage and into your other car. (did that too)
