I think a proper distinction might be
what builders do all assembly and design
and which builders source out part of
the work. I only know Bruce Zumsteg's
method. He does everything because that's
just his style. Unfortunately that includes
alot of labor that isn't MISSION CRITICAL.
Subsequently you wait 10-12 months. I admire
Bruce for being STUBBORN I guess.

On a serious note, I think that all "factories" had to have a starting point. Most (I use this term loosley) factories started in a garage or a dedicated room for the adventerous to experiment.

Bobbe, come on down. A week on Clearwater Beach will get you back on track. No factories....

Then again maybe the ticker couldn't take a week on Clearwater beach.

Bobbe,

I can't really think of any actual pedal steel guitar factories. How many are there?

Regards,
HH

Bill Baily, You win the first place trophy!
That's it,so many threads about how many people play this and that, who really cares? Ann Fabian started it and everyone good naturedly jumped in,I ask one intelligent question and the whole world is trying to read some horrible "put down" in it>what did he really mean"? I didn't mean anything,Does anyone know what "food for thought" means?
Bill, Stephen,WC, Jack,BJ, Carl,Kenny,David,Paul and many others know what I was saying,
Well,---All's well that ends well!
Now back to the boring stuff,
Bobbe

Who cares where an instrument is made??

If the instrument is of high quality craftmanship - garage or factory, what's the issue? I have seen outstanding examples of both. I have also seen horrible examples of both.

Price? Value is in the eye of the beholder, as well as it's perceived value in the market and it always will be.

Bobby Seymour said in this thread above, on June 28, 2001 (and edited it at 10:36 pm same day):

Quote:
Ann Fabian started it

I am somewhat puzzled that Bobbe Seymour would think to give me credit for starting this series of threads since the entire credit should really go to the person who started it and that person is:

Al Marcus

We do truly thank Al Marcus for his unsolicited support of Carter Steel Guitars. If anyone wishes to pass along Bobbe's comments to Al Marcus directly, Al's email is: almarcus@cmedic.net .

What's most interesting for me about my name coming up in the context of everyone getting a chance to celebrate the brands they each love and/or enjoy is:

The new OnLine Steelers Directory

can now be searched for that EXACT info by brand -- such as "Carter" "Emmons" "Peavey" "Zum" and so on! btw: Your mileage may vary depending upon spelling

I wish to thank John Fabian and his whole team of consultants and beta testers who worked to get the NEW OnLine Steelers Directory to be such an incredibly useful resource for all of us!

See my other post here for more details on this really cool site.

Your right Ann, You should not have gotten credit for that.ha ha !You are working very hard for the steel community and should be commended,Maybe you should be the first woman in the Hall of Fame? You are devoting a lot of energy in a very helpful direction and it is being appreciated by ALL! Thankyou Ann,from me, Bobbe
