I desperately want to learn how to play my lap steel. I want to play gospel music. Can anyone please let me know where or how I can learn? I am in central Ohio.
Thank you

assuming you have experience playing regular 6 string guitar like I did, I would strongly recommend you check out the material from fellow forum member Doug Beaumier.
his web site is http://www.playsteelguitar.com/
I did, and his material has helped me more than any of the various books /cd instructional material that I also bought.
It will allow you in very short order to produce sounds that make you think that you actually know how to play steel guitar.
Its not really so much a "how to book" but the material is easy to understand and relatively easy to catch on to if you have some guitar experience.
There are even some gospel / religious songs in the books.
Also as a beginner I would recommend you make full use of lots of material posted on YOUTUBE...surprising what you can find to help get a feel for the instrument.

Paul,
I will second what Mike Greer said in his response. Doug's books are easy to read and all that you play will transfer over to other material also. Forumite Mike Neer also has a lot of material available at his website. Greg Cutshaw..... also on the forum has a website with lots of licks, songs, etc for the 6 string lap steel, another excellent resource.

Another forum member Terry Wood has a DVD available that (I think) is Gospel oriented and is for sale on the forum.
Hang around the forum for awhile and you will be amazed at what you learn here.
