How many lower 12th string to C# on extended E9

Post by Jerry Hayes »

I was just wondering how many of you who play an extendeded E9, lowered their 12th string E to C#. I've seen a couple who lower it with their 4 & 8 raises to F. I have the Brumley change on pedal 1 which raises the 7th string to G# and I was lowering the 3rd string G# to G on the same pedal. I wasn't using that much so I put the 12th string lower on and I'm really happy with this. It sort of gives me a BooWah thing on an E9 tuning. Since I tune my 9th string to C# I get a good 6/7 chord with this lower. Also since it's on the same pedal as the one which raises my 7th string to G# I don't have that 4th sticking out in the middle of my C#7 chord and can strum the whole thing all the way across. I also have a LKL which lowers the 10th string to Bb (A#) which gives me a good usable C#6th if needed. I've been experimenting with this for about a week now and am finding all kinds of good stuff here......Have a good 'un.

Not me.
I prefer all 3 E -> +F on one knee lever.

I also raise all three E's on one lever. I rarely use it, but I probably wouldn't use it as a C# either. I can't think of any single string licks to use with that change, and when it comes to playing chords in that lower register, I'm usually on the C6 neck. Image

On my Carter 12 I lower the low E to C# with the "F" lever.

Same as b0b. I put the E to C# on my E to F knee lever. The only difference I do it on my E6 tuning, I also play the A and B- E9 pedals on E6....al Image

I use it for a lot of rhthym chops. Bobbe Lee does too. It really is handy to have those low notes when you do that kind of stuff! Ole Dave Frye

Jerry, I raise my 13th string B to C#. Also this string is lowered to G# with pedal eight standard change. Glad to see all this interest here..

I also lower the low E on my D12's extended E9 neck to a C#, but I also RAISE the 9th stg. D to D# along with it on the same pedal(a "0" pedal on the far left side...I've got 10 floor peds, so I can do it). It makes for an intensely gorgeous C#min11!!!

On bOb's sugestion, I chose NOT to raise the low E along with the other 2 E's on the "F" knee lever. That way, when I hit the "F" lever and press my "0" pedal, I get a great C#dom that I can easily make into a strait major by pressing the A ped right next to it.(emmons setup)

It's entirely because of that dumb string & pedal combination that I still secretly want to spend big bucks on a state of the art D12,(that I can lift...unlike my Dekley) when it would be so much easier to stick with a D10. I have my 11th (low G#) string on my B pedal and I raise & lower my 12th (low E) with the E knee levers.

I lower the 12 E - C# on my P4 which also lowers String 1&7 to F#-F.

I also lower my low E string to C# on the E-F knee lever, but it's the 11th rather than 12th string on my universal. I also lower it on a second knee lever so I can get a bass note for the C# minor chord.

I also lower the low B (12th) string to A on the A pedal. It's a very cool change. Some of you in California have heard me use it at the various jams we've had here.

I don't lower or raise anything to get the 12th string C#, ..my 12th string IS C# on a 14 string E9/B6/A6/13 series setup.
