Every once in a while I notice a Fender(?) steel guitar on the far left side of the band on the Letterman Show. You don't see it often but I have noticed it for several years. I have never ever seen
anyone play it. Has anyone noticed it and have you ever seen anyone play it? I imagine it belongs to the rhythm guitar player,- who we don't get to see very often. I would like to see the different band members featured every once in a while.
Confused Wally

The guitarist in the band plays it occasionally when backing up country singers. He usually has a Fender non-pedal steel, but in the youtube clip pictured below he's playing something else. Check out the video on youtube. Sounds pretty good!

It sounds alright, but he's just playing chord pads. That's what I would call "playing at it.."

Sid McGinnis is a fantastic guitar player, but his steel playing I've heard, has a lot of catching up to do. He's good enough, he'll figure it out.

sid played pedalsteel behind judy collins on someday soon once. it wasn't great but ok. he more than makes up for it with his super guitar playing night after night. he's a busy guy. that band puts most guest bands to shame...though most guest players seem to be too into their little world to notice how weak they sounded in comparison.

i love letterman and paul's band.
