I happened to see this photo on the internet and noticed an odd knob located near the tuning pans of this Rick D8, anybody know what it might be for? A photo of the bottom of the steel showed nothing added or out of the usual.

Maybe it's a strap lock? _________________ Brad’s Page of Steel

No clue as to it's function, but, on zooming in, it looks like the knurled barrel of a Tele knob, drilled out, and held in place by either a flathead wood or machine screw. The screwdriver slot is quite obvious. |

Thanks for replying guys....I doubt if it's a strap lock, that D8 would be pretty unweildy on a strap, plus it has legs, just not in this photo. It is definately a knurled knob with a very prominent screw slot like you say. I repair guitars and steels and can't fathom a guess what it might be, I've also seen dozens of Rick steel photos and guitars and have never seen another with this...it must be an owner addition of some kind. I wonder if it was added as some kind of a handle to help lift it out of the case? _________________ www.facebook.com/speedingwest

I wonder if it was to hold a tubular slide steel? |

Maybe to hold the string to hang a pouch with bars and picks over the edge over the wooden end plate?
That will keep the small tuner buttons and the tuner pan knobs free. |

I seem to recall someone here on the SGF supplying an explanation about that item........and that was:
It was mounting post for a home-made music stand? |
