Help Deconstruct a Jimmy Day 'lick'?

Post by Carter York »

Hey y'all,

I have a little clip of a Jimmy Day 'lick' from his "Wild Side of Life" from "Steel and Strings" album, and I wondered if I could send it to someone and have it deconstructed. Not being a pedal player, I'd like to know what is happening in mechanical terms, as well as in music theory terms....it's a little '.wav' file @ 350k. Any takers?

Thank you,
Carter

Carter: Jimmy Day was at my house one time when I was stationed in Germany. I asked him about a lick he used on the "other album " and played it for him on my turntable. He said words to the effect that he didn't know what he had done there, either. I hope you find what you need but I'd say it may be a long shot. Maybe Ricky Davis will see this thread and you prayers will be answered,

Regards, Paul

I always found it interesting that many players like Jimmy play with feelings and never really think about what they're doing. Dan Shields could also do this.

Ever notice that when you hear someone play in person, it's slightly different than what was on the record.

Hi Carter--I'd like to hear which lick you're working on---I have the CD but obviously I don't know what has caught your ear. Send it on, if you will.

If your Internet Service Provider gives you space on their server, why not upload it there and post a link to it here?
