I want to move the brass bushing on my LKL arm to shorten the travel.
Do I move it up a hole toward the guitar or down a hole toward the floor to shorten travel distance?
I hope I explained this clearly. Terminology is no doubt amiss. |

I prefer relative to the axle.
In the terms you have, you'll want to go "closer to the floor" or farther from the axle. _________________ 2 pedal steels, a lapStrat, and an 8-string Dobro (and 3 ukes)

When moving the brass bushings towards the floor, do I move all three down or just the one attached to the lever? |

Actually, unlike on most PSGs, on a GFI the LKL raise lever for E strings is linked in to the bellcrank axle, and this linkage acts like an "upside/down" (not a reverse) gear. So for shorter lever action on LKL on GFI, the bushing for short rod linking bellcrank axle to the lever must be moved closer to the bellcrank axle (up from the floor).
You then probably won't have to move the bushings for rods leading to the changer, so the E strings raises will stay well balanced - as they are now. If you choose to move them, they should both be mover further from the bellcrank axle (down towards the floor).
Then, adjust the stopper on the LKL lever a little, for the shorter lever action to result close to a one half-tone raise. Finally, fine-tune on the nylon nuts at the changer end for those raises. |

Gary,
From the work involved in modifying my own GFI, and from checking mechanics (pictures) on the GFI site, yes. All knee levers are linked into the bellcrank axles via short rods on a GFI, and for modifying lever travel/action you can initially focus entirely on moving the bushings linking these short rods to the bellcranks.
Move bushing closer to the bellcrank axle (up from the floor) for shorter, and harder, lever travel. Move it farther from the bellcrank axle for longer, and lighter, lever travel. Adjust stop-screw on knee lever to correspond with the new (shorter or longer) action needed for the change.
It is highly unlikely, but if - and only IF - you can't get a knee lever action short, or long, enough, may it be necessary to move bushings on rods going to the changer. |
