I've heard that this pedal has sort of fallen by the wayside for modern players. I have it and still like and use it. I remember on my first PP guitar, P8 was also hooked to the 1st string G and pulled it up a half step.
I got another PP from the same year a while back, and the 1st string raise is on P5. I looked in a Herby Wallace course book (very old) and he had the change on P5. Was their a concensus for where that change was? I listen to the change (G-G#) and try to think of hearing it in a tune...and I can't...
I know most of you guys use a D note on the 1st nowadays. Does that string have a change on it? Do you pull it up a whole or a half, and which pedal is it on?
Thanks!

Not sure if this is a standard for we Universal 12 players, but pedal 8 on my E9/B6, Universal 12, is my Boo-wah pedal. Drops string 12 a whole step, lowers 11 a half step, and raises 9 a half step providing - Ab Eb C.
I'll bet this has changed locations over time.
My understanding is it may have originally mimicked pedal 8 that affects the C6 neck on a D10 guitar.
In order to get a fat major chord with it, I need to flat the E's as well (6th mode). |

The first string G to G# raise was typically put on the 5th pedal. I have never seen it on the 8th pedal. _________________ Carter D10 8p/8k, Dekley S10 3p/4k C6 setup,Regal RD40 Dobro, Recording King Professional Dobro, NV400, NV112,Ibanez Gio guitar, Epiphone SG Special (open D slide guitar) . My Jackson came with the raise on pedal 8, but I think it's meant for the high D.
I use a high G and would prefer it on Pedal 5.
I still use it for high aug chords, but it's a bit of a stretch. |

Tab Lynn Stafford told me yesterday a black PP that use to belong to you (which he now has) has a killer sound, with a capitol K.

1st string P8 is meant for D string, 1st string P5 for G string _________________ 2 pedal steels, a lapStrat, and an 8-string Dobro (and 3 ukes)

I have the high D string and use the 8th pedal to raise it a half tone. It acts a lot like the 1st string F# to G Knee lever on E9th. Somewhere I've got a bunch of tabs showing it's use and I'll dig them up later if I can find them.

That sounds right--P5 for a G and P8 for a D. My original PP, (not the one Lynn has) came with a D on it, and the raise on P8, hence my cornfusion.
I got that guitar Lynn has from Bobbe Seymour about '95. It had been played a LOT.
Thanks for the info, guys!
