Good one, Mark... that took dedication. Have you tried it with gain?

Wow! Queen on pedal steel. That is so cool Mark. Love it! Just fabulous tone and execution. I'm so envious. I'll check out some of your other tunes when time allows. Thanks for sharing this.

Very impressive and enjoyable. It's great to see steelers taking on music not associated with the instrument. Lots of chords and rhythmic challenges in Queen compositions. Good job.

Awesome... I've always wanted to do a version of '39 on steel... Haven't found the time tho...

Keep it up!

Thanks for the kind comments all.

Stephen - I was thinking of doing Brian's middle lead bit with 'gain', but I got lucky with a reasonable take and thought I'd leave it as it was.

Good to hear from you Bobby, hope you're keeping well.

Chris, I'd forgot about that song, I had to YouTube it... reminds me of the folk music you'd hear at Barsham Fair...

Nice job, Mark. It proves that a good song can be played on any instrument, and a good player can make any song sound good.

Fantastic.
That's a really great chord progression and a fabulous melody. You nailed it.

Queen is probably (in my estimation) the #1 pop group from that era. Musically they were above the Beatles...............again............in my estimation.

As Chris Walke says ''That's a really great chord progression and fabulous melody''

And yes............you did nail it.

I have a question regarding the backing on your video. Did you play all of that your self and if so what equipment did you use?

Cheers,

jk

Cheers Brad and Chris - Great site Brad...

John - yep... very smart musicians... in the both composition and production.

I use a PC + Cakewalk/Sonar for creating all my tracks. Nothing fancy, just the plugins and samples that are provided with the software - That is; Session Drummer 3 for drums, Dimension Pro real bass samples, True Piano, Cakewalk TTS for the synth parts and Guitar Rig for guitar effects. I still have a fair bit to learn to get the best out of it all... I'd love some time to spend a few days watching a real pro producer put a track together.

Gary Carter's 'The Lighthouse Tale' tops my own list, when it comes to pedal steel YouTubes.

From about 3 yrs. ago. I think this deserves a bump up. How do you guys get this kind of fabulous tone? Crisp and clean, yet with a nice high end. I've been playing for 40 yrs. and struggled getting decent tone let alone anything as sweet as this. I know you're playing a Hybrid but still.....

I think it's time for me to give it up.

BTW, I wouldn't worry about putting any gain, edge, whatever on it..it's perfect as is.

Good job, Mark. Now you know, you have to start working on Bohemian Rhapsody.

Check out his other videos while you're over there.
Mark's playing of traditional stuff is killer as well. I see an assortment of various Telonics gear in use from earlier to present postings. No matter the gear, the playing is top notch. I know some of you are way ahead of me in discovering him.

I bumped this topic up from 3 yrs. ago, when I first saw it, and am a big fan.
