Lloyd Green - Revisited - Additional info

Lloyd Green asked if I would be so kind as to make you all aware of the fact that his album "Revisited" is available for download on I-tunes.
The easiest way to find it is to simply key in Lloyd Green Revisited in a search on your I-Tunes app.
Typing just his name will bring up all the other music that Lloyd currently has on ITunes.

Russ Pahl, producer for Lloyd's latest album suggested that SGF members should be made aware of this.
I am happy to do so!

I believe in response to your questions and requests, Lloyd Green asked me to post this additional info regarding Revisited and other albums:

“The only album I own which shows up on the Internet is “Revisited”, which Russ Pahl and I co-own. The Time album “The Big Steel Guitar” is owned by a guy in Hollywood. I don’t know who owns all of my Little Darlin’ recordings. I think they’re owned by a TV show producer in New York City.

As for the 2 Monument/CBS albums, they are owned by Sony. When I tried to buy them back a few years ago….they ignored my letter. They don’t sell anything, I’m told.

I own 10 or 11 of the instrumental albums I recorded but don’t have any of them for sale anywhere. The only reason “Revisited”is for sale again are the sizeable number of requests Russ Pahl and I kept receiving after we quit pressing it after several thousand, thinking it was dead in the water. But we did/do, so that’s why it is now available on Itunes. It’s probably the last instrumental album I’ll record and it was cut about 10 years ago.”

Revisited is possibly Lloyd's best recording to date IMHO. Great tunes and wonderful tone as you would expect. Actual toons instead of pieces based around licks. God Only Knows is just plain beautiful.

I listened to my copy again yesterday and was reminded of how far I have to go especially with regard to volume-pedal and left-hand technique.

I agree with Ken - 'God Only Knows' is virtually perfect! Lloyd demonstrates how pedal steel guitar - at least under his hands - has a 'voice' that no other instrument can replicate.

I am a massive Lloyd fan, and was very influenced by his playing in the early 70's. Lloyd cut a number of albums that had numbers based around chicken pickin' steel licks and rifts. Lloyds of Nashville springs to mind as an example. While Lloyd would have received royalties for his compositions, I still prefer him playing established compositions. I enjoyed his 2 Monument albums where he was playing well known tunes, and his two tracks on the Slide album - particularly Mona Lisa which is just exquisite.

I haven't heard him play any better than he did on Revisited, on which he certainly plays with a lot of feel and expression. No player has better bar control than Lloyd.

Did Lloyd record his steel tracks on "Rivisited" with effects or dry with the effects added during mixing? Reverb or delay/reverb?

“Dennis, the tracks were cut dry. Any and all effects, especially the almost invisible (by design) amount of delay, were added during the mixing stage.”

“A lot of time, thought, differences of opinion and months went into this album, the most intensive and involved instrumental one I’ve ever recorded. Russ Pahl was a wonderful, highly intelligent and professional guy to have cut this cd with. It was, at times, frustrating and professionally challenging for me. He picked most of the tunes, some of which I was only vaguely familiar; one or two which I had never heard.

But he was my equal in every way and we both understood what we were trying to accomplish.…and he is still my close friend!

A small, but for me important point. “God Only Knows” was the first song we cut and was my first U.S. recording since I quit in the middle of the “White Limousine” album of Dolly Parton’s in 1988. I had just cut “Yellow Roses” with her (Ricky Skaggs producing)
when my inner ear disorder of that era precipitated an abrupt retirement from recording sessions.

1988 to 2003 is a long time to be absent from the recording studios when the entire technology had evolved and changed to something entirely alien to me, a player who was the product of the 1960s,’70s and ‘80s studios.

Russ Pahl talked me thru all of this, took me to sessions he was playing on and literally introduced me to a whole new way of recording.

It made my reentry into recording a hell of a lot easier but did not change my philosophy of how I think and feel this beautiful instrument sounds best in a recording environment.”

Thanks for the added input into the production and engineering of the cd. I have all of your LP's. I purchased "Revisited" autographed from your booth at ISGC when it was released. "Revisited" was the ultimate Lloyd Green style, technique, tone and creativity. Thankyou for your inspiration to me and so many players and the advancement of the steel guitar.

Lloyd is my favorite steel player and I absolutely love the Revisited CD. We listen to it regularly in the shop as we are assembling guitars, maybe in the hope that some of the magic will become ingrained in the instruments.

The last little turnaround on "So Sad" usually gets about three repeats. It is simply wonderful.

I do wish that I had a lot more of Lloyd's material to listen to.

Like Lloyd I too have had inner ear problems / vertigo. How could I contact Loyd to discuss causes, perhaps steel guitar volume that bring on this condition. See what you can do for me Bent.

I hope that Lloyd will find the opportunity to record another cd. May times I dream about a cd with Lloyd Green and Buddy Emmons, on which they play songs of each other. Like Lloyd will play Blue Jade on his Sho-Bud, and Buddy plays Green Jade on The Blade.
Than Lloyd will play one of his songs on The Blade and Buddy would play one of his song on Lloyd's Sho-Bud.

Lloyd was scheduled to record on a four song production for Jason Eady last week.
Lloyd had to cancel due to illness. I wonder if it was the inner ear thing.
I was really looking forward to hearing these songs.

Lloyd has been back and forward for sessions on BBC Scotland, I'm sure he played on Transatlantic Sessions which are available on DVD from the BBC.

...I have one LG album that I played the tracks off of so I'll probably give this one a listen as well. I guess I don't understand enough about the music business to know why artists let other people get control of what I think should be their property. Maybe in another thread someone could enlighten me. But back to topic, looking forward to getting this album.

I, for one was not aware of this CD and as soon as I saw this thread this morning I went to I-Tunes and proceeded to download my copy. I have been enjoying this all afternoon since I had my traditional "Father's Day Meal". What a great way to enjoy Father's Day; good food, rest, and beautiful steel guitar played by Nashville's finest! Thank you Mr. Lloyd Green, you've still got it!! Smile
