My C pedal seems to have a longer travel than my A and B pedals, making a smooth-sounding change quite difficult to achieve. It is set higher than the B pedal but stops lower than the B pedal when engaged. Is this the way the C pedal is supposed to be or can I do something to shorten the travel to make it consistent with the B pedal? Advice gratefully received.

Hi Alan,
You didn't mention what sort of guitar you have unless it's the sho-bud in your signature. On an all pull guitar the amount of travel is affected by where the pull rods are located on the bell cranks and changer. Mounting the rod higher on a bell crank means more motion for a given pedal movement. But other factors can creep in. Has your guitar always been this way or is this a change all of a sudden? Could you post a picture of the C pedal bell cranks (will be on the cross shaft connecting to the C pedal rod.)?
Joe

It's normal for the C pedal to require more travel then the A or B pedals. I like to adjust the C pedal so that when the BC pedals are down, they are the same level. When the pedals are up, it probably doesn't matter. So, I'd suggest the first thing you should do is adjust the C pedal rod at the ball joint where it connects to the pedal. Get it so when it's down, it's level with B.

Thanks to both Joe and Bill. I'll try Bill's suggestion first and proceed to Joe's if this doesn't help. If it is usual for there to be more travel, I guess I'll have to ensure I'm more accurate and positive when using B+C. It's not as though slow pedal changes are the norm with the C pedal - more of a quick 'mash'!

Yes, one advantage to setting them so B & C are level when they are down means the C pedal will be a bit higher when they are up which can help you "find" the A & B pedals easier.

What a coincidence! I just this morning tightened up my C pedal pull rod on my Bud a turn for the same reason. I like it.. Cool
