Gratest Japanese Pedal Steel Player

Post by Matt Steindl »

OK folks, I just discovered this great MP3 by some guy in Japan named Mr. Korg. Check out his solo at the 39 second mark on the tune.

Go to the link and click on the "Country and Western" song.

Hope this guy doesnt ever come to Nashville or Texas and start taking our studio jobs from us! Image

I've heard some pretty good keyboard imitations of a pedal steel and this is among the best. I was approached by a guy who wanted to package some samples of my playing a dozen or so licks at different tempos and different keys. I turned him down.

Still doesn't sound like a real steel to the trained ear. Just my opinion.

Now I see a use for a MIDI pickup on my Steel. I can use it to trigger these samples and sound very close to a Steel. Image

Sorta like using a Match-Bro on a Dobro.

Matt,

I totally agree with Larry, but I guess you knew already that it is not a real steel. Doesn't sound too difficult either (and I am not a super player at all).

Yeah, it does not sound that convincing out front, but ya gotta admit that if you burried the simpler fills a bit further back in the mix, 90% of the non-PSG players out there wouldnt think it was anything else. The above mixing theory, is how I hide my beginners mistakes in the mix. Sad but true. Oh wel!!!!
