TransTube Fex - Dumping User Presets via MIDI Out Jack?

Post by Ken Watts »

I'm relatively new to the forum and to using a TransTube Fex as well. My TTF will not save data to a cache card. I have a few cards and no matter which one I insert in the slot, I get the "Not a TransTube Fex card" message and nothing happens. I also tried reinitializing the card but still cannot store user presets to it. The write-protect switch is not on. The battery is brand new as well.

The manual says I can dump presets using a cable and the MIDI Out jack on the back. My question is, what do I dump the presets to? The manual mentions using a Peavey MIDI Streamer, Librarian, or other MIDI sequencer but these are no longer available. I just called the Peavey factory and they were not able to suggest an alternate device. I presume I need some sort of storage device, but was wondering if computer software (maybe Band in a Box or similar) would suffice as long as I have a MIDI to USB cable. What I'm ultimately trying to do is save my user presets currently in memory so I can reload them if I need to reinitialize the TTF itself. Any advice or suggestions? Thanks.

I've wondered about this too. I'd like to save my user presets in Lexicon MPX1. I was referred to a free program called "Midi OX" but couldn't get it to work. Could be because I don't understand it. I'd like to find something simple to do sysex dump.

A Peavey Midi-Streamer is what I use in the shop. I have 2 of them.

Those also have a pesky memory battery (Midi Streamer). I have to keep the battery fresh, as I have not found a memory chip to work in them without the battery.

I also used Midi Ox in the past but it was very difficult.

I just found a Peavey Midi Streamer used for $59.95 so snapped it up. Hope it works.

Be sure to open it up and check the memory battery. Yo will need standard 5 pin midi cable, too. It will format a regular floppy disc for use.

Thanks again Ken. Now the guy at this used gear store can't find the 16.5 volt adapter and also has a feeling the thing might not work. So he's sending it to me for $25 shipped. I decided to gamble on any problem being battery related. He says it's been sitting back on a shelf for at least a year or two. Now I'll have to scare up a 16.5 volt adapter. Anything special about that adapter? Like a neg. center or hard-to-find ma? I don't know too much about those except that I've fried a couple of things with wrong adapters. Who knows, maybe it's already been cooked. :aside:

I just built 9 of these adapters up. I use Digikey molded cables and Basler transformers. They work great. I can send you for $24.00 shipped Priority Mail. They are AC adapters, so no polarity to worry about.

You can also get them from Peavey Psrts Department as well.
