TruTone Single Coil vs. Humbucker. Which would you choose and why?
Thanks |

If the places you play don't have hum issues, then go for the truetone: I love the attack of a single coil.
If you have a hum issue or play a lot of different places, get the 'bucker. _________________ 2 pedal steels, a lapStrat, and an 8-string Dobro (and 3 ukes)

While it has the clarity, I still think it lacks the teef. There's a bite to a single coil _________________ 2 pedal steels, a lapStrat, and an 8-string Dobro (and 3 ukes)

the choice of PUs on the Encore is an option
for single coil, the Wallace Truetone is a mainstay
personally, i like the sound they have
hum "can be" an issue BUT it's not really a hindrance imo
i ordered an Encore for a steeler here - he wanted a humbucker
Doug installed a George L "Eon"
it sounds GREAT ! w: string separation
i would look into the Telonics or the Tonealigner :

I think Doug winds a great sounding humbucker. I've heard, or remember, seeing soemthing where you can wire his pickup to switch between humbucker and single coil. I use an Electro Harmonix Knockout Attack EQ to get single coil sound out of my Stage One's humbucker, and it sounds great through Fender tube and Laney SS amplification. But some things, like Bud's Bounce, sound better with a humbucker. IMO, of course. |
