Fox Vintage Amp repair department closed

Post by Ken Fox »

We will be slowing the business down this year. We are no longer doing repair work on amps. We have a few more tube amps for sale and that will be the last of our custom built amps.

We will continue the chip kit sales and such on our website.

As I will be reaching retirement age in June I need to slow it down a bit for sure. We plan to stay active on the Forum, go to few more steel shows than we have in the past as well as travel a bit more for just plain old fun! We have a little 21' Airstream that is yearning to hit the road soon.

Our thanks to all who have supported us throughout the years. It has been a pleasure to serve my friend on this Forum.

As in the past I will not be answering tech support issues via email or phone. I prefer to keep that public and on the Forum, due to a very abusive email a few years back from a Forum member. I will monitor the Forum and help out, to best of my ability. We have been blessed with some very knowledgeable folks on our Forum and they can also help you with your technical issues. A lot of the typical problems have been addressed again and again in the Electronics Section of our Forum. Just a simple search can reveal a a wealth of information.

Again, Ruth and I thank you for your support in the past and look forward to some of you at upcoming events!

Ken, I hope you enjoy your retirement. I thank you for all the help you've given me over the years, but mostly, I appreciate your's and Miss Ruthie's friendship. Y'all are truly two of the best people I know. If you ever make it to this part of SC, stop off and say hello. We'll do some grillin', or burnin', whatever.

Thanks to all you.

Steve, I hope we can get up there for a show at Saluda soon. We have a show in February just down in Florida that will be a lot of fun. That one at Gilley's Family Opry, Feb. 16th.

Retirement

Hi Ken, Congratulations on your upcoming retirement.
I was curious about the N.ville 400 intesnse mods. Will the kits for it be available? I may have a tech here who can install it.
Enjoy that airstream...

No, I decided a long time ago to never sell the kits as I would have been buried by phone calls and emails from people seeking tech support. Even with a simple plug-in chip kit there are folks that have trouble performing that.
The chip kits are all we have ever sold on the website and I will continue offering those for sell.

Ken, I appreciate the conversation and work you did for me on my N-400! Thanks for inviting me into your home and giving me the opportunity to hear You play your steel and other guitars. You and Ruth are great people who are so down to earth and you make people feel so welcome. Hope to see you around somewhere in the future.

Take Care and I wish you and Ruth the best!!

Hanging it up

Post by Ray Thomas »

Ken, remember visiting you with my son (owns some homes across the road from you) and you put the chips in an amp for me and also demo'ed a little steel and guitar playing for us. I wish you the best in your days ahead, when I get that way again would like to stop by and say hello, in the meantime maybe I will run up on you at a jam somewhere. Thanks for what you mean to the forum

No kits for the old Artist 240. A great amp. The 240 is all discreet transistor (no op-amps) and 4 x 6L6GC power tubes. If it were mine I would replace all the electrolytic caps in it, check audio coupling caps for DC leakage and clean all the jacks and pots. Also check the tube bias and adjust. You are lucky as the new VT series did not have a bias pot, yours does.

Thanks again Ken ! It's can be kinda hard finding techs to take on these hybrid amps (like MM's, too). This one is working so those suggestions are just what I was looking for.

Ken, I hope you still keep your hand in some amp building, (if only for yourself). I have really enjoyed the advice, and all the beautiful restorations you have shown us. (You have always been more than helpful with your expertise)!

I recently built a Princeton Reverb clone for myself. I really like it for guitar and may build another. I have also been interested in the Tweed Tremolux. Trouble is it is getting so expensive to build clone amps now, not sure if I will for a while!

Good luck Ken. You're the best! You tweaked all my old Fender amps to sound good for steel. But my best sounding amp, is still my Fox Vintage Steel amp. Thank you for the tone, Ken.

Congrats on the retirement Ken! My amps sound better with the chip mods. They cleaned up the sound in my Special 130. For those who haven't tried, they're worth it, but get them from Ken because there are counterfeits out there!

Ken, are you coming to the NW Georgia show in Dallas GA on Feb 10th?

Bob, I am not sure yet on the show. Where is is at? I need to check out camping nearby or possibly at the show location?
We have a small 21" Airstream we are using now. We also have one show in Florida later in the month as well already planned for sure.
