Pac-a-seat inverted top

Been thinking about this for quite some time. Has anyone considered or thought about building an ATA grade seat, about the size of the old Ace seats, but with this twist. The lid would be reversable. You could flip the lid around at a gig, with the cushion on top. Then reverse it for transporting. Another way would be a removable cushion that would store under the lid. When in use, the cushion would attach to the top of the seat with velcro or something.

I'd be real interested in finding one, as it would not get near as torn up on flights or simply from transporting it.....

I know another option is simply to build a flight case to carry your seat, but it's still another peice to keep up with...

Anyone built or building one of these???

Why not just have a 3" deep hard cover that fastens over the top of the seat? It could fasten on with the same type of suitcase latches that hold the top down, only affixed to the sides of the seat!

WC Edgar used to build his ATA seats and I had the same thought. Make it so all you would do is fold the backrest up and place a deep lid on top and bottom. The rest of the seat would ATA already. It sounds a great deal to me.

Hi Danny,

I've been using this kind of seat (SGC Real Seat)for several years...even used it at Scotty's Convention a few times.

Didn't have it in Texas last year though.
This seat has been all over..Europe, US, Canada, surviving many airlines, etc. & is still as good as new.

These Signature Sound flight cases, seats, amp sleeves are built for me by fellow steeler Royce Riehl....father of Jay Riehl...the drummer with the super group "South Mountain"...most of which backed us up at Scotty's a year ago...so Royce knows what a steeler needs!

I built one with an invertable seat/lid some years ago. The standard musical instrument-type latches I used (four in all, one on each side) were not all that strong, and the first time the bass player dropped it off the back of the band wagon, the lid came off and I had to pick up picks, strings, volume pedal, etc. off the ground...maybe if you put angle aluminum all around the edges of the opening and used some good butterfly latches, it would work.
