Pardon my ignorance

but who was that playing that killer Sheerhorn resonator with A.K. and Union Station last night? I was guessing Jerry Douglas.
Incidentally it was a pretty cool gig with a full symphony backing them up.

ya that was jerry douglas, that boy sure can play. that was a nice show, never really paid much attention to her, but maybe i'll have to check some of her stuff out. will

Did anybody tape it? Or know when the show will be repeated? Alison is one of the greats and her band is too! She's sings to many sad songs on her latest CD, but go back a couple years and everything is outstanding.
I get the impression from the packaging on her latest that "somebody" is trying to make her into a pop star. Pays better I guess!
You want to hear some more nice playing by Jerry Douglas? Check out his work with Maura O'Connell..."Helpless Heart" is an excellant CD.

The show in question is PBS "Evening At Pops". Watch for it--these things get re-run plenty. I have felt for several years that she has leaned or been pushed toward pop. But then, anything outside of 'traditional' bluegrass is going to earn her criticism from the traditionalists. While I am not an avid fan and I don't buy much of her stuff or play what I've got all that much, her talent is strong and she has an incredible gift in that voice--truly the voice of an angel.
I am not real interested in gospel (I'm not even a Christian) and I find some of the material on this CD a bit over the top but if you want to hear some singing, listen to the CD "Alison Krauss & the Cox Family--I Know Who Holds Tomorrow" from 1994 on Rounder. Some Dobro by Rob Ickes and a beautiful non-pedal steel solo by Kayton Roberts. This won them a Grammy, I believe.
Oddly, there is no credit to Mr. Roberts in the notes but he is in the group picture.

But the singing--man, it cuts right through me! (In a good way, of course

Thanks guy's. I've got a few of her albums. Her voice is just amazing, goosebumps galore. Plays a pretty mean fiddle too. Douglas' Dobro work was great.
Is it a sad commentary on being a gearhead when I can recognise a Scheerhorn but not Jerry?

I saw them last month, and it was a great experience. Well worth the $28.

Jon: I've been playing the song "I Know Who Holds Tomorrow" at some church services. We play it just like on the Cox/Krauss cd, but I kick the song off and play to the chorus, and the vocals take over. We trail out with Dobro like the recording. People really seem to like the song.

Gee Kenny and I thought I had the coolest church around. I've played both bottleneck and my Tricone/Weissenborn at church numerous times (and will again in 2 weeks) I wish I lived closer to you I'd love to "hear" one of the services at your church.

Hey...does anyone know of any "cool" churches in the Boulder, Colorado area? Unity of Boulder is "OK" but we're looking for something a little more devotional and worshipful. No ego tripping ministers or narrow minded legalism...please! Looking for a church with an open mind and open heart.

Sorry to report that I just read that Ma & Pa Cox, Willard and Marie, were hurt real badly in a car accident Sunday around Shreveport. Not life threatening, apparently, but quite seriously hurt.

Cox Family Regroups After Accident

SHREVEPORT, La. (AP) - The musical act The Cox Family is trying to
regroup and plan for the future after two members were injured in a
car accident.

Willard and Marie Cox were listed in fair condition Sunday at LSU
Hospital in Shreveport, according to hospital staff. They perform
alongside their son Sidney and daughters Evelyn and Suzanne.

Willard Cox, a Grammy Award-winning fiddler, has a crushed spine and
cannot walk. Marie Cox suffered a fractured vertebrae, a broken arm
and rib, a bruised kidney and a concussion.

``We're in tough shape and don't know how it's going to turn out.
We'll just have to wait and see,'' Marie Cox said.

Evelyn Cox said her father's mood was upbeat. ``We were all really sad
at first, but now we're trying to look a little ahead.''

The couple had stopped on a highway Wednesday when a logging truck
struck them from behind, police said.

The family quartet from Cotton Valley is known for their brew of
gospel, bluegrass and country. They have played together since 1976,
with Willard on the fiddle, Sidney and Evelyn on guitar and Suzanne on
mandolin.

The band won a Grammy in 1995 for ``I Know Who Holds Tomorrow'' with
Alison Krauss.
