New Bruce Kaphan CD!

Post by Matt Elsen »

Wanted to alert everyone here on the forum to Bruce Kaphan's new CD "Bruce Kaphan Quartet". It's just been officially released but I got my sweaty little hands on a copy a couple of weeks ago and have been playing it constantly since then. It's terrific.

The CD showcases Bruce's remarkable playing through a range of tunes and styles - some are his own compositions and concoctions and others are takes on some pretty cool songs that you'll recognize - "Birdland" and the Allman Brothers'"Jessica" among many. I can't really pigeon-hole all the styles here - it's jazzy and there's some rock and fusion and there's some tasty sound-scapes and textures - all in all it's a real musical feast.

The musician ship is 1st class across the board - Jeffrey Walsh playing his fretless bass, Jason Lewis on drums, John Burr on keyboards, and of course, Bruce playing his black Zum.

I posted a link to a video of the Quartet playing "Jessica" in the studio in the "Steel on the Web" section of the forum. Check it out and then go buy the album. The CD is available now on ITunes, Amazon and shortly on CD Baby... You can also buy it directly from Bruce's website: http://www.brucekaphan.com/pages/Bruce- ... artet.html

I bought this CD and an earlier one by him, 'hybrid', after catching up on him from a recent interview in the mag Tape Op; I had bought Slider a few years ago.
These two newer CDs are just incredibly beautiful music, and they use PSG in a way you don't usually hear.

I got it a month or two ago & it is very fresh & interesting. Bruce proves that E9 can play more than just country tunes.
