Restored '82 Shobud Pro III with 8&4
I've been working on this Bud for a while and finally completed the adventure! The guitar was completely stripped down and all parts cleaned, polished, or replaced as needed. There was a great deal of lubricant applied to the undercarriage over the years which took it's toll on the finish. So the underside of the body was sanded and 4 coats of lacquer applied to make it look much nicer. The finish on the remainder of the body was aged as would be expected but no checking or cracks in the lacquer. I polished out the finish and with really nice results. Some bar dings between the neck are still visible but nothing major that would warrant stripping and refinishing. The endplates polished up really nice. I installed a set of George L's SS-10 pickups and replaced the toggle switch and input jack. The fretboards are new from Tom Bradshaw, the pickup mounting plates are from Jerry Overstreet, the Shobud tuning nuts from Ron Mawn. I have most of the parts for a 5th knee lever including a broken bracket which James Morehead or Michael Yahl can help with. I have another steel that I have my eyes on and need to move this one. I've put many hours of labor into restoring this beauty but it was well worth it!
Thanks,
Dave

JR, Jerry, & Pete thanks for the kind words. It really is a "labor of love" working with these classics. Again, it gives a great deal of respect to members like Lynn Stafford and Ricky Davis who regularly bring old classic beauties back up to par. I can attest to the amount of work they invest in their respective endeavors!
