Help Dating A Dobro

I picked up a 8 string dobro brand, (OMI) today & was trying to rember how to tell the date? I rember some years back on the fourm someone had explaned , but I cannot rember, the number on the headstock is D 477 8 Thanks Smile

The serial number you gave makes it a 1978 vintage. The 8- string dobro is the model 63.

I've heard of guys in love with their guitars but "dating a dobro" was new. Just wondering, were you honest with your lap steel ahead of time that you were going to "date a dobro" or did you do it on the sly and hope she didn't find out?
