I've seen many early era Carvin/Kiesel's and had an 8 string Kiesel in black, as all their so-called Bakelite's have been, but here's a speckled brown finish Kiesel that has a more Rick Academy look to it. I'm wondering if this was more like an Academy's brittle Bakelite body, my 8 was a softer plastic, almost vinyl-like body. Should have kept it, but...

My friend and partner Alan Foust had a Kiesel exactly like this, in brown bakelite. He traded it to Rick King of Guitar Maniacs in Tacoma WA. Rick got tired of people asking how much, so he put it in his display case next to an early Fender Deluxe steel guitar and model 26 amp - all "Not For Sale". It had a very nice mellow tone, and I try to get to play it every time I get up there. Also there was one being walked around at Guitarlington this past October.

Peter, next time you get to handle it, please check the texture of it and feel if it's a pliable plastic or more of a typical Bakelite rigidity. So many sellers of these Kiesel's proclaim them as Bakelite, and was why I bought mine, and maybe it is, but it's not the older type that I'm more accustomed to.
