That was great. I am familiar with the tune as an old standard, but Tom really breathed new life into it. Thanks for posting.

| Amazing as always.......I know that youtube clips are not a major indicator of the real sound & tone of an instrument......but I'll say that I think Tom got his best sound on his mesquite guitar.....that steel had a deep rich tone that was a perfect marriage for his playing...... |

I recently ran into a 1937 recording of The Light Crust Doughboys "Blue Guitars", which has the same opening line and basic structure as "Blue Steel Blues". The Doughboys had no steel player at that time. They seldom did have one.
Ted Daffan's BSB was recorded in 1940. I guess those Texas boys were sharing their tunes around back in the day. |
