You can see that his front neck is not strung up. His tunings appear to be E13 in the middle and C6 on the back. _________________ Links to streaming music, websites, YouTube: Links |

Where the heck do you get this stuff Mike? The video of the Tophands playing "Pfhoolockah" at your site is fantastic too; I am totally blown away by Leon Chambers' solo in that one as well as this!

All Steel Guitar player have quirks...Tom never smiled
Buddy Charlton when with Tubbs..always had his hat pulled down over his face. The wife told me I always had a scowl on my face when I played. Jerry Byrd hardly ever looked up from his guitar when playing.. etc etc....Lee |

I seem to recall some discussions on the forum about why Tom had that low E on his tuning. He may have even been quoted saying the he didn't know why either. Boot Heel Drag sounds like at least one explanation for it.Tom's playing is always awesome and the band is also.
Thanks for posting Mike |

That was great! What a player. One thing I noticed was during the piano man's ride and before he took his first improv solo, he completely stopped playing altogether. That's a great thing to do and hard for me to remember. Makes for a nice entrance. In some bluegrass bands the person playing fills will often take the next solo. _________________ Greg

Bootheel Drag was written by Herb Remington shortly after he joined Bob Wills. There is a U-Tube somewhere with Herb explaining how it came about. It
was recorded by Bob Wills and became a Steel Guitar Standard Instrumental played by us Old Timers over the years. On the original Bob Wills recording there is a great three way "Ride" played by Herb, Tiny Moore, and Eldon Shamblin. Three way "rides" have pretty much become a thing of the past in mainstream Country Music of today. _________________ Sacramento Western Swing Society Hall of Fame, 1992 |
