Likely one of Bob's older builds. I recall him telling me he really doesn't do those types of paint jobs anymore. _________________ If Music Be the Food of Love, Play On. -Shakespeare

Bob told me that early on in his building career he had a local motorcycle shop that did custom paint jobs on bikes that did some painting of his guitars... not big sellers and the idea just faded away. |

That looks like a Morrell to me. I believe Bob used to refit those years back. |

You are correct. I started making lap steels in 2007 using some Morrell bodies that I sanded down to bare wood, reworked and had the motorcycle shop do some fancy painting. Then I realized many changes would need to be made. The lipstick pickup on the 8-string was replaced with Wallace True Tone pickups, later adding George L and Lawrence pickups. The open gear tuners were replaced with high quality sealed gear tuners, the stamped bridge with narrow spacing replaced with a wider machined bridge. As mentioned, the fancy paint jobs never took off, most customers preferring the look of natural wood. The motorcycle shop didn't understand serial numbers so there are two #003 and two #006. One of the #003 was reported stolen and shows up from time to time in various ads. The seller has claimed to be a dealer selling below dealer cost. I don't sell through any USA dealers. If the seller won't send you a photo of the s/n, it's time to start asking questions. |

"Then I realized many changes would have to be made" No kidding! I am reminded daily of the difference in workmanship between your shop, Bob, and the Morrell shop. You win by several miles. |
