Rev. Lenny Stadler

Post by Duane Keiper »

I just received this notice from Lenny's wife. Lenny's father made Marlen pedal steel guitars.

Duane,
I am sorry to have to inform you that Lenny died on October 22nd. He had stage IV colon cancer mets that had pretty much spread everywhere. He fought cancer bravely for 2 years with 2 rounds of chemo (12 each time) and 3 surgeries.

Take care and God bless.

Shana M. Stadler (Lenny's wife of 36 years)

I am very saddened to hear this. My first steel was built by Lenny's father back in 1975. Now I have a magnificent Marlen pull-release dating back to 1972. With Lenny's passing the family's link to these great steels is fading. :(
The steel guitar is a hard mistress. She will obsess you, bemuse and bewitch you. She will dash your hopes on what seems to be whim, only to tease you into renewing the relationship once more so she can do it to you all over again...and yet, if you somehow manage to touch her in that certain magic way, she will yield up a sound which has so much soul, raw emotion and heartfelt depth to it that she will pierce you to the very core of your being.

OH Lord I hate hearing this. Such a awesome sweet giving man Lenny was; took right after his father. They are back together and closer than they were their whole life on earth; Now they live eternally with all the love a father and son can have.

All the Stadlers

My prayers go up for the Stadler family. I exchanged emails with Lenny a few times several months ago, when he was recovering from his last surgery. He said he was going to try to keep the Marlen name alive here on the Forum, but he didn't know what God had in store for him. Rest in Peace, Lenny!

Lenny put a bunch of Marlen parts up for auction on eBay earlier this year and I picked up a few of them and had the pleasure of trading a few emails with him. He mentioned his illness but I didn't want to think he was this close to the end. I was very much impressed by his kind manner and his dedication to his father's legacy and I'm also very saddened by this news.

All,

I was very sad to learn of Lenny's passing. I was very honored when Lenny asked me to play my Marlen at Leonard's funeral. It was the hardest thing I have ever done. God was guiding my hands because I could net see the fret board or my bar from the tears in my eyes. Lenny and Leonard both were wonderful people that touched my heart. I am sorry i did not learn of Lenny's passing until after his service.

I have the last D10 Marlen built that I treasure. I have so many fond memories of after hours at Leonard's store when I was a teenager. Good times!

Respectfully,

Jerry

I traved to Reidsvills, NC to visit with Leonard Stadler but never got to meet Lenny. Leonard immediatel put me to work polishing pedal bars. I'm sure that Lenny shared his fathers fellings-Be Kind To Everybody. Condolances to his wife and family. Scotty

P.S. The Marlin was the very first steel guitar that I sold at Scotty's Music. Scotty
