| I played two numbers with Willie Nelson one Sunday at the Longhorn in West Virginia. It was 1984 and the AFM had their convention in Charleston, WV. It was the weekly Jam and Willie and the band stopped by. Thanks to Gary Boggs the owner operator who got them to come out. Anybody have a photo of this? |

| While playing bass with Wanda Jackson years ago, she had Leon MacAullife set in with us, at an outdoor gig in Del City, Oklahoma. Leon was just the nicest man, and what a player!! He sang, and played San Antonio Rose, and when he got down on Steel Guitar Rag, I just went off in to clouds!!!! He did several Texas Playboys songs, and I still can't believe he played like he did, on a multi-neck Fender steel with 8string necks, no pedals, thru a Silver Face Twin Reverb amp. And if anyone out there knows the person who owns a '52 Fender P-Bass, serial number 0020, tell'em its backed up LEON! Yep I'm dumb as a post, I traded the bass off. I mumble to myself all the time about it. Also had Jimmy Day back me up while I played guitar at a friends church in Dallas, a month before he passed away. The Mullen BLUE DARLIN, and a Webb amp. Ya'll know what it sounded like!!!! Nuff Said! |

Justin Trevino,Johnny Bush,in a few recent yrs,been a long time ,can't remember that far back.
Oh yeah,Larry Nolen at the Red Eye Saloon in the Eisenhauer flea market in San Antone.

Starting in the 50's,when I was a teen the first was the Everly Brothers,Many more over the years I can't remember,some were Jimmy Dickens Sketter Davis,Johnny Horton,Jerry Hubbard,Johnny Russell,Vern Gosdin,Leon Everette,John Anderson,many more over a fifty year span,these were all guitar jobs before I played steel. Also played bass with the do-wop group the Drifters for a week one time,Since they were one of my favorite groups when I was a teen I really enjoyed that. YOU BETCHA,DYK?BC.

Good to see so many of our forum members have some impressive resumes.
Opened up a lot of shows for some big names and played with a few.
A few I have backed over the years:

I continue to back up all of the biggest names in the business. Been playing a lot with Alan Jackson lately. Yesterday evening I backed up Lee Ann Womack for an hour or so. I just cue them all up on Youtube and play along in my den.  It's very good practice though...in case I ever have an opportunity to sit in live with a big name. |

I like to refer to my bedroom as my little "studio", where I "back up" artists while their cd is playin'. One of those artists is Danni Leigh. At a steel show in '06, I backed up a great female singer who is a favorite to steel players-Laney Hicks! I played her favorite Connie Smith song "Once A Day" while Laney sang it and it was an amazing experience! It was one of the many highlights of steel conventions and shows I've played.

I backed the World Famous Smiley Roberts on Acoustic guitar...he backed..me when we were both using his Dobros in Nashville....also played with Joe Diamond and Billy Johnstone..."Opry Players"
Jammed with Tommy Dodd a couple of times and with Joe Ace when he lent me his Dobro.
OH Yeh..!!! there was also a guy named Keith Urban....rehearsed in my music room.....played show with him...you may have heard of him !! |
