I picked up this Jerry Jones model six years ago. Willies Guitar in StPaul, Mn for around 595$.
it has that sound I heard in those 60's bands.
I love this instrument.a riot to play and more than a one trick pony.
your original has mojo. mine doesn't...yet.

It makes me "Cry like a Baby" (Boxtops) that I don't have the cash to buy that classic.

Somewhere in my collection I have an identical instrument made by a different company. I usually have photographs of all my instruments but couldn't find one when I looked.

It was a Rogue. See my comment below. (added Nov 1)

I'd love to have one to just hang on the wall. I also have a Dano with two lipstick pickups. How do you convert this guitar to a sitar without the sypathetic strings?

I guess you would just remove them. But the sympathetic strings are part of the overall sound.

It can be done, not extremely cheaply...

Since the only differences between an electric sitar and an electric guitat are the sympathetic strings and the buzzing bridge, if all you want is the buzzing sound, just transfer the bridge to a regular solid electric. Or, alternatively, just build a buzzing bridge and put it onto a Telecaster. Buzzing bridges are not difficult to build. I once built a mountain dulcimer with a sitar bridge.

Alan, unless I'm mistaken he was asking how to convert a regular Dano to a sitar, not vice versa.

Oops. Yes, you're right, I misread it.
It never did make any sense why anyone would take an electric sitar are convert it into a regular solid electric, which you can get any day.
Well, that being said, the main problem with converting the guitar to a sitar would be the sympatheic strings. I would recommend building a complete new body. By the way, the string tensioners on the sympathetic strings are the same ones used for hammer dulcimers, autoharps, etc., and are known as rest pins. Rest pins need a dense, hard wood, or they go out of tune easily. I recommend maple.

Rogue made an exact copy of the Danelectro Sitar, which Musician's Friend were selling a few years back. I bought one. I can't compare it with the original as I've never played the original. The Danelectro is much the more sought-after model because of its rarity.
For anyone who wants to hear what they sound like there's a demo on YouTube...

Love this pic. You can hear the Coral on so many '70s Yes tunes.

When these things came out, the Danelectro Co. gave Barry "Byrd" Burton and myself one of these things. I kept mine for about two weeks and gave it back. All the people I knew that were using them got them for free. I had no use for it, but I wish I had kept it now. Fred

Randy: I hope that all the information regarding the instrument has not prejudiced your oppurtunity to sell it. I would recommmend that you keep it.
