Apogee Gio

Anybody tried one of these? I have one and I'm using it for practice/recording on a Mac using headphones. Sounds too bright on guitar and the PSG sounds horrible on headphones which I need to use to avoid divorce.

Any suggestions for to calm it down or for a replacement? My Tascam interface seems to have become obsolete.

Replaced mine with an Apogee Duet, and I'm happy with that. What software are you using?

For PSG, I find that you need some sort of preamp before the interface, preferably a tube preamp.

I also use the apogee duet 2. I love it. So simple and sounds great!

I would be wary of recording direct pedal steel into it though - my signal path is amp - mic - preamp - apogee and I can get a really full sound that way.

If you have to record direct, I recommend a good preamp or something with speaker "modeling" like a sansamp

Hi Alex

I'm using Logic / Mainstage. I thought the Gio would be ideal as its made for that. I don't like the Duet as its very expensive here in Scotland and the cable breakout puts me off.

I have had all sorts of computer front ends over 25 years! Recently been using a Tascam US122 cheap & reliable but now giving problems. I used to rely on a Roland Microcube with a lapel mic clamped to the grille. Worked great perhaps I'll go back to that. Still not as quiet as headphones!
