Joe is the Steel player for Mid west Jamboree on RFD-TV..airs at 8:30PM SAT. I do not know what Amp he is using but his tone and fills are superb. Joe, thanks a lot for your great playing, you are a happy part of my Saturday evening. |

Are you guys including everybody with your slams to Midwest Country? If so you are way off. There is a lot of talent on that show. Actually more than then meager stuff. All I can say is if you don't like it shut off your TV, practice your steel playing, and maybe you could be on that show. Here is the thing folks, the ones you don't like are doing something you haven't been able to achieve. And that is they are on TV while you are at home doing nothing on a Saturday night. While I am no Joe Savage, I am privileged to be able to appear on the show. |

Gents, The point I'd like to make is that Joe has a very difficult job because he is backing so many different Singers..yet he does a fantastic job playing fills and back up for all these different people. His tone of the last couple weeks is the best of all the TV players..IMHO. Remember, the Steel Player does not have the power to pick and choose the singers on the show, all he can do is do his best as a backup and lead player and Joe does his part very well. |

I too think Joe does a nice job on the show. Playing behind a variety of singers can be difficult at times. I may get slapped here but I do not believe the show is a quality show. I have always wondered how they record it. What I hear on tv just does not sound good. There are some acts that do very well and some who make me turn the channel. And that is when I am not out playing on a Saturday night. |

I think that Joe played thru a Webb amp for a long time. Not sure if that is what he is using now. |

Joe is a killer player.
This thread is about Joe. There is a thread going if you you want to diss the show. Let's leave this one about a really good steel guitar player. _________________ Carter D10 8p/8k, Dekley S10 3p/4k C6 setup,Regal RD40 Dobro, Recording King Professional Dobro, NV400, NV112,Ibanez Gio guitar, Epiphone SG Special (open D slide guitar) . Hey Folks.....thanks for all the kind words!! Brad, I've been using a Twin Reverb II this year. It's the Rivera design from the '80's. I like it but it weighs a ton! I just leave it there at the theater. Seems like a good match with the Williams guitar but too dang heavy to move much.
I'll stay out of the rest of the discussion.
Just wanted to say thanks for the compliments! _________________ Joe Savage

True dat! Joe has a way of making everybody sound good, and bad singers sound better. And when there's a smokin' act out front, expect Joe to step up and knock one outta the park! Pretty good with no pedals, too, and not bad on the harmonica. |

Joe, I agree, I think you have found the perfect match for your Williams Pedal Steel..your Tone is superb..do you have any other effect units in the chain or is it just the guitar, VP and Amp?

I too am a Joe Savage fan. I just get riled when people start dissing the show but have never appeared on it. Let me also say I have filled in for Joe a couple times and it is no easy task. |

Brad...my chain is basically steel-sarno blackbox-hilton vp-maxon analog delay-wet reverb (stereo model). I've got a few other gizmos in there too but the basic sound is that chain I mentioned.
Thx.
Craig, thanks for your defense. You are right, it's not an easy gig and believe me, I'm acutely aware of the obstacles and issues with the show. I just try to do a good job backing people and avoiding any train wrecks if at all possible!!!! _________________ Joe Savage

Having been in The Oklahoma Opry Band, playing lead guitar, steel guitar, or on several occasions, bass, I can tell you, it's not easy backing up some singers. Joe Savage is a encyclopedia of songs of all genres, does a fine job, and I enjoy the show even if some of the talent ain't up to snuff. Some of the folks on the show are like me, we're old and washed up, but we still like to perform cause it's fun. I may rot away on my old Sho-Bud steel seat, but not in a rockin' chair in front of the TV set!!!!! |
