John Hughey was like a special vintage of an old fine Wine. The older he got, IMHO, the better he beame. He played what fit the venue and never overplayed to just impress Musicians _________________ Sacramento Western Swing Society Hall of Fame, 1992 |

That's great to hear john play like that, i would have sworn that was 'Frankin-esque' style...great playing, nice and tight and snappy. I been guessing bad lately too! _________________ A.K.A Chappy. |

For something completely different, pick up a copy of "Richard Betts- Highway Call" featuring Mr. Hughey playing the parts that Duane Allman might have played, and stretching out on a couple of long jam pieces, primarily on C6. Mind-blowing!
This CD may be out of print, there a few left on Amazon for only $9.

I too was awed the first time I heard John step away from his style and start playing the really close to west coast style but believe me, he could do it. I've got a cut of a tune called that kind of guy that was recorded by the Twitty Birds band. I could have sworn it was J.D on steel but it was John. _________________ Henry Matthews
