Anyone know a Lynn Fraser or Frazier?

Post by Ray Harrison »

A friend of mine, not a fan of computing, is looking for a steeler that worked with him in San Diego many years ago. Lynn Fraser(Frazier) worked with Paul Harper, and left to join Ray Price on the road.
Any locations on him or if he's still around?
I'll relay any info to my friend.(Yes, I have a couple of them.)
Thanks

Ol’ Lynn Frazier lives here in Austin, though I haven’t seen him in a few years. Quite a zany fellow and a monstrous and inventive player. He did gigs with my band the Rightsiders when I was running it back in the 80’s and then he did some shows with on Don Walser too. He played for Ray Price, Hank Thompson and many others. He was a child prodigy on steel. He has a picture of him when he was a kid playing with Carl Perkins. There’s probably more stories about Lynn floating around than just about any other steel player I know of. I’ve got a bunch myself.

Howard, Thanks for the info. If you do find a way to contact him, my friend would like to call and re-visit old times with him.
I've heard the name and some stories, but never had the opportunity to meet him. I had heard that Herb probably knew him around Austin and I plan on visiting with him in Phoenix.
Once again, Thanks

Lynn was, I believe, the steel player for the Broadway show, 'The Best Little Whorehouse In Texas' when it opened in 1978 or so.

I know, because I had to attempt to replicate his work when the show transferred to the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane in London's West End - that was in 1981.

He played some GREAT stuff on that soundtrack recording - I managed about a quarter of it, then had to make up my own for the rest of the show!!!

A fine player...

Lynn is quite a memorable character and talented steel player..I hung out with abit while lived in Fort Lee,NJ an easy commute to Broadway for "Whorehouse"gig. He turned me on to "Lambert,Hendricks and Ross" the great jazz vocal trio..JS
