Nice find Ron, that's the stuff all right. Reminds me of these old boys: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qDEC3yIo78o

I could listen to this all day, and dance to it until they had to carry me out - which might not be very long nowadays. Smile

Good band Mike! But that drummer...............

Having been a drummer in years gone by, I was amused to see the 'stand-up' drummer here.

Not only does it limit your pyrotechnics (not required in this band I suppose), but it's likely to be jolly well uncomfortable balancing on one leg in order to play the bass drum. Not only that, the hi-hat will go unused too.........and in years to come I can envisage a back problem developing.

I've been a drummer in days gone by myself John Ed, and I think it's crazy too. It's showmanship plain and simple, but I hope at not too great a cost to the guy's well-being!

... and the steel player doing the same thing doesn't catch your eye? Last week I watched Junior Brown do a very 'pyrotechnic' set doing the same thing... balancing on one leg playing the Guit-Steel. That would wreck me, I can tell you that.

I guess I have seen quite a number of stand up steel players, they don't catch my eye really. I guess I'd notice a stand-up pedal player though.

The thing with drumming is that you need to be seated to play the pedals of the bass and the hi-hat, otherwise you'll be cranked over in some abnormal position, in order to play (in this instance) the bass.

The pedal of the bass (and hi-hat) works at an angle of about 35 degrees to the floor, so it's not just simply a matter of tapping your foot parallel to the floor - your foot is cranked upwards. Stand up now and give it a go - tap your foot in time to some music whilst keeping that foot at least 35 degrees at an angle to the floor. You'll need to get your achilles tendon looked at by a doctor, before too long.

You couldn't operate the hi-hat as well, standing up, unless you had them permanently closed and then you'd be limited to playing just a ticketey-tick rhythm on them.

You know, I hadn't thought of that! So I guess he had a dilemma to consider and chose short-term relief in one area. Very Happy

Doesn't Junior use a stand to hold up his instrument?

Yes... doesn't mean that standing on one foot for an hour is fun, try it sometime. Not only is he a genius, he's an athlete.
