Hey ya'll, if my username didn't give it away, my name is Travis Lyon and I've had my MSA Classic for about 3 months now, I'm a guitarist first but I've been bitten by the PSG bug pretty bad...this thing just sounds to beautiful.
Anyway, I was wondering if you guys have any suggestions for an amp that can handle both PSG and normal guitar. I have a 68' Super Reverb, but I'm a traveler/student so that stays in NJ unless I'm with a touring group. I'm looking for a nice high headroom clean tone that can be manipulated easily with pedals, under 70lbs would be nice too. I know it's tough because PSG has a different voice range than a Telecaster, but so far the only thing I've seen that looks like it might work is the Cube 80XL, but my question is: is it loud enough for gigs? Any other suggestions in the sub $600 range are more than welcome. |

The GK MB200 or 500 has more headroom than the Roland and drives pedals really well. I use one (when packing lite) and the lead guitar player in my band loves his as well ( runs a Tele thru his). For double duty, I'd recommend a single 12" cab.

Travis where in Joizy you from?
I use Vox ad valvetronix amps a 120 w2-12" and just picked up a VT 80 w/ 12." also an older Peavey Renown w/ 15" Black Widow .
I just listed on Craigs list tonight a Peavey session 500 that is around 80lbs for $350.00 ...to heavy for me...can make a deal if interested...just not going to ship it ..Vin

| I'm from the Asbury Park area, Manasquan Park to be exact. Since I travel so much I'm looking for light, clean and good for both. I'll check out the Vox you're talking about, that thing seems cool. |

I have a Vox ac30. It's a great amp, but not for clean pedal steel. I've done a couple steel gigs with it and it certainly has a cool sound, but I wouldn't want it for my main amp.
If you don't need to play through a tube amp, there are plenty of options out there for lightweight amps. I do need to play through a tube amp, especially if I'm using it for guitar too.
Here are some ideas for tube amps.
A twin with 1-15" or 2-12" neo speakers is much lighter and can sound very good.

It's very light and louder and cleaner than a twin, with a lot more kick.
Another thing I used to do which sounded pretty good was use a Fender Deluxe reverb and run a line out (simple mod) into a TC Furlong split cab. |

A Super is fifty watts, which may not give you a ton of clean headroom.

but its almost the perfect amp for a split steel/guitar gig. I've used a super plenty of times and been told to turn down

Perhaps you don't realize that speaker impedance is important? The SR takes a 2ohm load... a 4ohm 15 might work for a while. Weber makes an impedance matching box... PITA to have to have this for a combo setup.
The Roland is the most popular new amp around here... loud and light. Check out the entire Roland line, plenty to choose from there.
