Nice surprise, John Stannard

Post by Bob Hoffnar »

Last Night I was playing one of the thousands of those "what has my life come to" gigs at a club in Lockhart. Across the stage was a tele guy who talked funny. The band started and I was astonished by his playing. Turned out to be John Stannard. The guy is a total bad ass! Deeply musical, big ears and scary chops. It made the gig a joy. I hope I get to share the stage with him again. It was an honor. I love it when stuff like that happens.

Hi Bob, I hope all is well my friend! Yes, John is a quite a player isn't he? I was able to watch in amazement, as he played in the Telonics room last March in Dallas...whew....he's a very gifted musician. What a joy it would be to share a stage with him :D
Best regards,
Lynn Stafford

John is one of those players that not only makes you feel good about music, he gives you a real kick in the rear. He's one of the reasons I put down the tele, and picked up the steel. Someday I am going to record and play some gigs with that guy. He and his wife are wonderful people.

Last summer I spent a weekend with John - and David Hartley- John was ever present when music was being played. I have seldom met a more music-happy person than John. His wonderful personality and superb musicianship is contagious to everybody in the room. One evening, John spontaneously got a sing-song going. This was so inspirational that I found myself singing til my lungs ached. It is so easy to sing with a pro backing you!
John's a top notch person. Nuff said.
