Post by Bill Quinn »

What year is this photo from of the Playboys in St Louis? Mid-80s is as close as I can recollect. Wow time flies.

I apologize for the poor quality, I simply took a picture of the picture.

They were more than great at the show, Leon played a Quad Stringmaster.

Feel free to ID the boys, I know most but not all. I believe that is Mrs. Wills with the guys.

I believe that was 1987. I was there that year, tremendous. Betty Wills was there, and I stood watching Leon McAuliffe play with the Texas Playboys with two other Texas Playboys' steel guitarists standing on either side of me, Gene Crownover and Billy Bowman. One of the greatest moments of my life!

Plus witnessing the incredible Eldon Shamblin on rhythm guitar and the classic vocals of Leon Rausch.
One of the good ol years for sure !

Ron,

You are absolutely correct!! Actually, listening to and watching the whole band, ....I singled out Leon in a steel guitar reference frame of mind. To me, it was incredible that I could be witnessing this wonderful event with these great musicians. They were, and are, heroes to me!

After the Playboys did their show I overheard a conversation between Eldon and a very well known young steel player it went something like:

steel player: "I'd been on the road six years and am glad to be off it."

Eldon: "I've been on the road forty years."
