My first pedal steel, a Sho-Bud crossover, came with the Jimmy Day setup. That's what I learned on and stayed with. At the time, I didn't know there was any other setup until later in the learning process.

I tried both setups, but still prefer the Day style.
One advantage I like about this setup is that you can put the E9 5/10 lower on the first C6 pedal by simply adding the extra pulls, saving the expense and headaches of adding an extra lever. I also find it rather easy to come off the A pedal onto this fourth pedal and back again.

Emmons. Changed the RKL E to Eb to LKR. It just makes much more sense. Prior to that change, if I did LKL to +F and RKL to -Eb I would get an out of tune E natural note. Now neither knee level conflicts with the other.

new Emmons setup. I have played the day setup on floor pedals with old Emmons knl setup.now that was fun. I've had to change styles 4 times. I am sticking to the Emmons setup now. Jerry F.

When I do sit down and play a "Steel with Pedals" which is pretty rare these days. I prefer a Day set up.....

Sho-Bud. That's the way the guitar came, and being a beginner, I didn't know any different for a while. Seems to be working okay.

Day here too since 1970 - for the comfort factor on the ankle.

I have the Emmons set-up on my Mullen guitar, just to practise the 'other way round' on occasion. I hate going into Bobbe's store and being frog marched over to his steel of the day that is plugged into an amp. Bobbe then tells me what I don't want to hear - "Tommy White can play both set ups great". Yeh sure, but he is just a monster player and I'm not.
