Mr Leonard Stadler passes away Monday 9/09/02 He was the Manufacturer of the Marlen Pedal Steel Guitar in Reidsville, NC.

It does not seem like it ... ten years ago today we lost our dear friend Leonard Stadler. I think of him often and treasure many great memories.
Rest in peace my friend... you will never be forgotten.

When I returned to steel-guitar after a long absence, I was dismayed to see how many had passed away. The two that hit me hardest were John Hughey and Leonard Stadler.
My first steel in 1975 was a Marlen rosewood formica D10 pull-release. It was beautifully-built, stayed in tune, worked flawlessly and had great tone. That steel saw me through some very difficult times in 1979. I didn't part with it until 1992.
Leonard and I corresponded personally several times on that instrument and he was unfailingly helpful and extremely generous. It may well have been the first Marlen in Australia, and I think he took a particular pride in that.
Now I have another Marlen and it is a fitting tribute to his love of the instrument and abilities as a builder. The simplicity of the mechanism and the beauty of the cabinet are perfect examples of his work.

And that Marlen has been used to demonstrate more
Peterson tuners than any other pedal steel guitar in the world!
Deepest Sympathy to all Mr. Stadler's family on the anniversary of his passing-He was a true "pioneer" in the development of pedal steels.

In earlier times, most of the attention went to Sho Bud and Emmons because of the star factor. Most of the big guys were playing them. As time went by players discovered how great these Marlens were. Leonard was right there in the development and improvements as he and Ron Lashley were friends and frequent collaborators. Leonard Stadler was a gentleman in every sense and a credit to our steel community. I still miss him
