Play without this knee lever!
Pretty close to the end of the night I broke the knee lever that lowers the E strings on the E9 neck. I figured if Lloyd Green has done it all these years it would be a good time to get some practice. Try playing without this knee for a few tunes.<FONT SIZE=1 COLOR="#8e236b"><p align=CENTER>[This message was edited by Frank Parish on 08 September 2002 at 07:08 AM.]</p></FONT>

I played the entire "Always Patsy Cline" show one night last year without it. One of the little raise hooks on my push-pull was stuck between the 4th and 5th string changer fingers and every time I'd try to lower the raise finger would kick in. Had to get it home in the light to see well enough to figure out what it was.
It wasn't that hard to play around it, but I was certainly more comfortable the next night, when it was working. Nobody else, including the music director, even noticed it.

For a while I had a guitar that couldn't raise and lower a string. I put the raise on the 4th string and the lower on the 8th (two separate levers). It was very playable.
It takes a while to get used to going to the second string instead of lowering the fourth string. If you're having trouble learning how to use the second string, you might consider removing the fourth string lower for a while. That will force you to go to the second string more often.

As I heard it, when Lloyd put on the lever to raise his E's the only place left was LKR. Here's his tuning:

Joe,
Actually, The Beast spanked me that particular night.

I agree with Bobby on the 2nd string, if you dont have the knee lever that flats the 4th string, you can do it with the 2nd string.
I had a Fender 400 with 1 knee lever, and had it pull the 4th string 1/2 tone to F and the 8th string lowered to D#.
I played that setup 3 nights a week for 4 months while I was waiting for my MSA D12.
I got so I used that 2nd string all the time. by picking the 2nd and 3rd string and the 5th string , it worked real good for chords too.
But I was glad to get that D12...al
