Waylon's version. Mooney or Reggie Young? Moon had a way of sounding like a 6 string so I'm just wondering if anyone knows for sure.

my guess is ralph at his best. reminiscent of corn pickin, slick slidin...

interestingly, clarence white and ralph mooney would have crossed paths in the west coast studios and bakersfield and both recorded with wynn stewart at one time or another.
black rose (honky tonk heroes) was released in '73.
clarence died in '73.

Chris, Clarence stole from Ralph as he was one of Clarence's heroes for sure. I knew CW back in my old SoCal days and have heard him say how much he admired Ralph as we all did!....JH in Va.

My money is on a regular guitar. Too repetitious, even for Moon, and I'm only hearing one raise. Good straight guitar players don't need "benders" for this sort of thing.  |

Nothing to do with this song, but,,,,I have a good friend who is a Nashville Cat. Many, many years ago (like 30 years), I was showing him what I could do with my G and B benders. His comment? "JB, I can do that stuff without benders." So I played another lick, with the bender string note between two unbent strings. "Steve, can you do that?" "Well, no I can't do THAT! Pretty cool!" |

As we became Profession Musicians, didn't we all start stealing styles and licks we could copy from all the great players among and before us ? Evemtually we developed our own style as we improved in our technique and creativity !
