Pickups on your Zum

Post by Tim McCutchen »

I was wondering for those of you with Zumsteel guitars, what pickups you have. I have the stock pickups which I like but I have been thinking of trying different ones. Please respond on both E9th and C6th pickups.
Thanks,
Tim

My Zoom had stock pickups when it came and I changed them to the LXR-16 and I will never go back. I'm giving thoughts to ordering another Zoom at St. Louis this year and I'll have the Lawrence XR-16's put on it.

I liked the stock pickup on the E9 but found the C6 too dark and muddy, so I changed it to a Lawrence 710 and am much happier with it.

I use George L's on both the C6th and E9th. I love my pickups, and the sound of my Zum, and the way it plays, and yada yada yada....

Well, since no one has added to this thread lately...Bruce Z.'s stock pickups are very good;he and I did a bit of experimenting years ago and this is what we came up with.
( Yes, I know this has been said many times before on the forum!) Single coil pickups usually sound best on stage whereas a good humbucker is almost essential for the studio.
I have two E-66's on my D-10 Zum and I love it that way, for both applications, but to each his own. Howard Roberts, the famous jazz guitarist, once said, " The first rule of music is this: That which sounds good is, and that which sounds bad is not!"
