Bobby Garrett's Last Tuning
Can anyone please give me Bobby Garretts's last tuning. it was published in Steel Guitar World Magazine. I have mis-placed my copy and can not find it. It showed how to play Rose City Chimes on a E9th

Bob: I wish I knew what you know !! The last issue I got was No. 42 and it said the Bobby Garrett tribute by Wayne Yakes would be continued in issue No. 43. I never saw that and at one time considered asking Dr. Yakes for his draft so I could read the rest of the story but never wanted to impose on him in that manner. If you saw that issue, I'm sure hoping someone out there still has a copy because it could be the rarest of the rare from that now gone publication. I'll be watching with you to find out.......

Bobby Garrett's last E9th tuning (as far as I know) was; high to low, F#, G#, E, B, G#, F#, E, B, G#, E. Pedal 1...lower 6, F# to F, lower 7, E to D#, and lower 10, E to C#. Pedal 2...raise 4 and 8, B to C#. Pedal 3, raise 2, 5 and 9, G# to A. Knee levers...LKL, lower 3 and 7, E to D. LKV, lower 5 and 9, G# to G, LKR raise 3 and 7, E to F#. RKL, lower 3 and 7, E to D#. RKR, raise 3 and 7, E to F.
As I understand it, Bobby said this was his ultimate E9th. tuning.

Rose City Chimes would work out in this arrangement with pedal 2 & 3 and LKR. When I spent a summer with Bobby in Dallas, he had an A note in front of his C6th tuning and worked RCC from the 12th fret using 4-3-2 and then 4-3-1. I've posted before about him using my Standel one saturday afternoon and I sat behind his right shoulder as they closed out with RCC. He let the bar fall between the necks and played the ending without it and did all chime work down to the last bottom note. You don't forget moments like those !!
Uncle Doug: Bobbe will correct me if I'm wrong but I think it was the one and only Ralph Emery who used RCC for a theme song on his show out of Nashville.

I think maybe Rick had it right. That's the tuning that was in Winnie Winston's book as I remember. I used to play this tune in the key of B on my E9 by lowering the E's and using that outside F#. All the harmonics were played with the side of my little finger laying over the 12th fret for the 1st position and then the 7th fret for the 5 chord (F#) stuff. This tune is a real crowd pleaser for sure.
