Shipping information

Post by Danny Peters »

I'm going to put my Magnatone T8 on eBay and was wondering if anyone could tell me the best way to ship it. I was thinking UPS, fully insured of course.

Thoughts?

Danny,

I have shipped two lap steels one via the US post office $45 one UPS $27. And the one UPS weight slightly more. Hope this helps.

I prefer to use FedEx ground for shipping guitars and amps. I've had good luck with them, and they are easier to deal with than UPS, in my experience anyway.

Who you ship it with is not as importent as HOW WELL YOU PACK THE SHIPMENT.....I've used all of them and it's basically a dice roll as to which one will deliver the goods un-damaged. That's been my experience. FWIW.

Here is my input as the receiver not the shipper:

With FedEx you can have them hold your shipment at one of their many locations in your town. (I usually go to the local Kinkos/Fed-Ex since they are open until 10PM.) It works best if the shipper specifies the location when making the shipment but it can be changed once the package is enroute (that seems to delay the shipment a bit.) I think that FedEx has a higher weight limit than UPS. BTW FedEx makes deliveries from Tuesday through Saturday.

UPS is great where I live because there is a depot a few miles away (this is where the trucks live.) If I miss a delivery I can call UPS as late as 7:00PM and pick it up between 8:30 and 9:00PM

Of course if there is always someone home to sign for a package that isn't an issue.

P.S. I hope you get a good price for your T-8. I would have killed for one of those a year ago but I'm kinda running out of room for more steel guitars. :(
