Sincere Condolences

Post by Glenn Uhler »

David,
My sincere condolences to you. Not long after my Dad passed, I had to clean out his workshop. Took most of the tools home with me. That was a blessing in disguise from God! Now, every time I use one of his tools, I think of him.

Just want to say thanks to each and every one of you ..

Our beloved father (pop), Charles “Chuck” Albert Wright, age 86, passed away on June 8, 2012 of natural causes at the V.A. hospital in Helena, MT.

He was preceded in death by his parents Charles Albert and Kathleen Ann, as well as his siblings Jack and Dorothy. Chuck is survived by his children David Charles Wright of Dallas Texas, BarbaraJean Lovinsone of Modesto California, and Kathleen Ann Belling of Helena. Chuck is also survived by this grandchildren Don, David, Blair, Blake, Mason, Maigan, Michael, and Miranda; as well as his great-grandchildren Derek, Kyle, Madison, and little Clover Peace.

Pop was born in Newark, New Jersey on April 8, 1926. At the age of 17, he joined the Army and served his country on Okinawa in the 231st Chemical Regiment.

Pops playing career began in the bay area with the band, “Jimmy Rivers and the Cherokees.”
He was one of the forefathers of the production and design of what is known today as the “pedal steel guitar.” He built his first steel guitar in 1948, and during his career Pop built and designed the “Wright Custom” guitar as well as the “Sierra” pedal steel, which is still in production today.

Pops built country sweetheart Barbara Mandrell a guitar when she was just 12 years old. Today, this guitar resides in Barbara’s Hall of Fame in Nashville Tennessee. His guitars were played on numerous hit records in Nashville from the 50’s, through the 80’s. One of the most recognized hits is “Crazy Arms”, sung by Ray Price with Jimmy Day on steel. He continued to play, build, and design guitars until 1980.

On October 3, 1993, he was inducted into the Sacramento Western Swing Hall of Fame. Pop has left a signature on country music that is irreplaceable.

After retiring from the guitar business in the 80’s, he became a machinist, and after several years, he retired from the machinist union.

With ailing health, Chuck moved from California to Helena to live with his daughter Kathleen.

We will miss you dad. Thank you for the wonderful memories and valuable life lessons. You will live in our hearts forever.

Our dad had an abundant and exciting life full of good whisky, wild women, and great music. We love you dad, and we salute the “mother ship.”
